I got a phone call a few days ago that I can't seem to let go of... I went to a dentist in Modesto to fix an abcessed tooth a couple of months before we left Modesto. It turned out as we spoke that the dentist had been through a big SA situation with the same SA pastor/church as me; how his wife was treated. He was so kind to listen to my story and even did the $1K procedure on my tooth for free! But he warned me not to talk too loud as he was sure his receiptionist was listening; she is a member of SA church!
Well, she CALLS me a couple of days ago (we have been in WA a month now!); "Uh, we sent you a letter about our new office location and it came back marked "Moved - Left No Forwarding Address"... so where did you move to?"...I told her we had moved out of the state...and she still asked for my address! CREEPED me out! So, I explained (duh!) that since we were out of Modesto, she wouldnt need our new address! She gives me the "oh, well...I was just wondering where you were." She does not know that I know she is from SA church. Then she asked why we moved away! Guess I bit that hook: I said, "You know, we were simply not safe in that city...whistleblowers always pay a price; we were continuing to experience threat/intimidation so it was time to get out. BUT, we are doing great; my husband has a great new job and I am getting back to writing my book!" (Go tell that to your shepherd, sister!) and then I got off the phone!
So, is it just me or was that very weird? I have spent years trying to learn how to separate perceived threats from real ones; not necessarily physical threat; but "unsafe" all the same. Does anyone else struggle with this?
