Default american christians and alcohol

I was talking to my husband and some strong christian friends the other day about the hang ups that it seems we americans have about consuming alchohol in moderation. My european friends tell me that despite religious background, it is no big deal in other countries for christians to drink moderately.

I wonder if this is just due to our background with prohibition here in this country.

I am not by any means an advocate of drinking excessively. I know that is wrong for many reasons. However, I do not feel bad for enjoying a glass or two of wine at night while I relax as long as it is not something I do on a daily basis.

I would love to know your opinions on this and how they've changed since you left your abusive situations. I know my opinion differs vastly from the one I had 3 years ago on this subject.

Yes, it has been scary in some ways for me to work through this. I did not drink much in high school or college, so I am working through this now as a thirty something post cult member. Like many other things I've had to simply learn self control and how to hear God concerning how much is too much.

So, fellow forumers, outcast is back for a visit and ready to read your stimulating opinions...

Let er rip!!
