I was reading some passages in the Word again tonight that describe a true or false pastor. It is comforting and eye-opening to see how the Lord wants his pastors to be and how seriously He takes it when they abuse their position and mistreat those under them. He is NOTHING like an abusive pastor. He is does not lead with domination, control, manipulation, fear, pride, legalism, or deceit. He draws people to Himself with gentleness, love, freedom, kindness, humility acceptance, and truth. Anyway, I thought would share these Scriptures here, in case it might help anyone else to read them too:
This is how the Lord instructs His leaders to conduct themselves. How many of us knew pastors who failed these qualifications? 1Tmothy 3: It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires {to do.} An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. {He must be} one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), {and} not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the damnation incurred by the devil. And he must have a good reputation with those outside {the church,} so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Deacons likewise {must be} men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain, {but} holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach. Women {must} likewise {be} dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things. Deacons must be husbands of {only} one wife, {and} good managers of {their} children and their own households. For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. ************************************************** ** Here is how seriously the Lord takes the mistreatment of His sheep. He sure does love us! Ezekiel 34: 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flock? You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat {sheep} without feeding the flock. Those who are sickly you have not strengthened, the diseased you have not healed, the broken you have not bound up, the scattered you have not brought back, nor have you sought for the lost; but with force and with severity you have dominated them... therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will demand My sheep from them and make them cease from feeding sheep. So the shepherds will not feed themselves anymore, but I will deliver My flock from their mouth, so that they will not be food for them.. .As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the people. I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest," declares the Lord GOD. "I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick; but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with judgment."
