As alot of you know, one of the happiest days of my life was when I became grandma almost 2 yrs. ago.
It has been an absolute JOY for me and MANY,MANY TIMES I think my little grandson is the ONLY things that has literally kept me alive!! Well...it looks like my daughter and her family and yes my grandson will be moving away from Jersey! Her hubby works for the government and they are opening a new facility in North Carolina!!!!! This is bitter-sweet for me. On one hand I am very glad they are getting out of New Jersey. This state is so very expensive to live in and there is nothing here for them. The cost of living is much cheaper there and they are really excited about the move. Because he works for the government, they will pay to move them, for housing if the move comes quicker then expected, and will also buy their current home if they can't sell it. All GOOD things I know but, my heart breaks at the thought of not being able to see my daughter or my grandson whenever I like. They live only 10 min. from me now. I have been truly blessed with them living so close! My grandson has got me through some VERY HARD days and, he NEVER ceases to 'make it all better" whenever I see him. I've run to him many, many times, and like I said, he has been my ONLY reason for survival on more then 1 occassion. I LITERALLY LIVE FOR HIM!! I guess maybe God is trying to tell me to depend more on HIM and less on my grandson?? I continue to pray God's will in this situation. I Honestly DO wants what's best for them! They will be 6 1/2 hrs. away so I supposes we COULD take some long weekends and go visit them. I am scared to death my "baby" will forget me! I am going to miss them terribly!!

AW Janice, all I can say is that I can really relate. I live across the river from you and my daughter took her baby to North Carolina when he was 8 months old. Then she proceeded to have 3 more kids before moving back into the area. She had one more since then. They change so fast.
I can tell you that your grandchild will not likely forget you. As little as I've seen them, I somehow managed some kind of bond with the one in the middle. Either that or he's just really huggy! Prayers for you...

Janice,
I hear that North Carolina is pretty nice, any chance that you can relocate as well? I doubt that you grandchild will forget you..... but it would be a great excuse to travel south during the cold days here! I have heard of people who send video letters.....and then there is always the computer. I can talk to my relatives now more than ever because long distance phone calls are so much cheaper AND the internet. and I doubt that there is anything wrong with your grandchild bringing you joy and peace. I would be lying to say anything different than my children do the same for me...they keep me going. love, jane |

Gosh... I hope you can make visits often! It feels so far away, but once you get in the car and drive... you are there before you know it. The more you do it... the faster the trip seems to go. Also... when you visit that distance, you have their full attention and they have yours. The visits are so special because of the distance. It's still not the same as living in the same area, but something to be said for special visits. I have a feeling you'll be down there often enough that your grandson won't be forgetting you. On the contrary... it will be the big event of the week/month.
I hope this helps... My dad and mom lived far away from me for years. Now dad is alone and lives 6 hours away. I try to get up there once a month. |
