Does anyone know if Jeff Van Vonderan has ever joined in the forum here, or has anyone counseled or had a phone consulatation with him? If so, what was your experience?

Also, has the idea of a moderated call conference for those here ever been discussed, and if not, is there anyone here that would be interested?

When the Spiritual Abuse forum was first being developed---as an outgrowth of discussions on the National Association for Christian Recovery Open Forum, I believe---I do recall J.V.V.'s participation here.

When this forum had its major "melt-down" and new software was brought on-line, it was very apparent that the administrators WERE "watching" what was going on. It was only when things became so chaotic that it appeared that the participants couldn't handle the difficulties that there was...literally...an "intervention."

I'm not sure if J.V.V. has an e-mail, but the moderator for NACR is Dale Ryan, as you may know and he has been kind enough to facilitate many different problems for us, including getting me signed up, when I was having difficulty with that. If interested, his e-mail is dryan@christianrecovery.com He could probably put you in contact with "Jeff"---in quotes because I feel shy about calling people by their first names when I don't "know" them...ESPECIALLY when they are published authors!

No idea about your idea of a conference call---Do you know of the annual "S.T.E.P.S" conferences in which people are grouped by interests etc. Might be something to watch for!

I used to exchange a frequent email with Jeff when I first started coming here in 1999. When I tried to get him to answer my cries for "help" and participate on the forums, he seemed to want to take a backseat approach instead of participating. It seemed like he even took an extra long time to answer my emails so that I wouldn't become addicted to his input. It was like he was "letting me down" on purpose. Or, maybe he was just too busy.

The implication was that we (spiritual abuse victims) had gotten so used to looking to a person to make life okay for us and affirm our reality - and now we needed to learn to work things out on our own. He didn't want to come onto the forums and become everyone's savior from the wolves of spiritual abuse, because then we would have crowned him as king. The whole cycle of idol worship would have started all over again.

That was my take on it anyway.

I remember having a few email exchanges with Jeff VanVonderan, and I remember that he posted once in a while, but not as a constant presence. I got the impression that it was important that this be a peer support forum (I also remember the old site said somewhere that it wasn't an "Ask Jeff" forum)

A very decent guy - probably "in demand" for speaking engagements & other stuff like that.
