View Full Version : FWIW...as I too try to figure out forum dynamics!

For those of us MOST familiar (STILL) with the "older" format of these two forums, it seems to me that it was really easier to "follow" a conversation in the older form. With this software, you have to continually go back to the "original" post of a thread....making it APPEAR that there have been many people "reading" that post....when, actually, it was only necessary to open the thread in order to get to the next post. For myself, I tend NOT to go to the "open last post" BECAUSE it gives me information out of context and in reverse order.

As you've probably surmised, this is in partial response to "Standing Still" and his recent query as to why there were more people "reading" on one thread than another. A VERY simple response could well be that it was more complicated to follow one post than another. I would be VERY careful about impugning motives about "responses" or "NO-responses" to some kind of neglect or "abuse".....NOT that that was what was said in that particular post!!!

It's REALLY hard at times to keep the "thread" lines straight AND, when emotions are "hot" there is GOOD reason NOT to want to jump into the fray. As I suggested---and then Satscout and SS agreed, I do think there are times when it's just best to let things cool off.

So...in a sense...because he wasn't able to access the forum for a while, he HAS.

But now....WHY the renewed attempt to stir things up? It doesn't seem that a mere "apology" is wanted, but rather a desire to engage in a kind of "discussion" which people have told him does NOT seem to be in order right now. As I said in my "peace" post, from my point of view, when people come at things from radically different backgrounds/experience, sometimes I think it IS time to "table" a "discussion" and to MOVE ON to other things.

NO....I'm not "running" here either---though, especially as I'm rather "overloaded" right now, I really don't like this kind of "stimulation"/"confrontation." But...it was my choice to give a little observation out of MY experience...and out of my little "history" on these forums. As Satscout said---and---due to the way things are formatted here, I can't quote directly very conveniently, so I won't, WHEN you're told that certain things are "triggering," the "respectful" thing to do is to re-phrase, BACK UP---observe---see how things work here, etc.

At this point, I begin to be a little "angry" myself. By what "right" do ANY of us have to come in and INSIST on our point of view? Yes...to a certain extent, I too am guilty of that now and my only "defense" at the moment is that of a kind of "longevity" on the forum(S)---having witnessed MUCH of the history of previous "melt-downs" etc. I CARE about these forums---the people on BOTH forums have been helpful for me and I really don't like to feel that we ARE entering into a period of renewed "upset" merely because ONE PERSON, ONE NEWCOMER is coming here insisting that we "swat" at his "buzzing."

If we don't feel like responding---perhaps it's because we DO have better things to do than to try to soothe/"validate"/"convince"---or otherwise "engage" someone who does not seem to want to enter into true dialogue and/or to get to know the people here.

???

Perhaps I'm wrong....and no, I am NOT "judging" this person OR others here.

"Take what works and leave the rest!"

Grace and peace to you ALL this day.

Theo,

I'm coming in with a lot of energy and slowly learning the dynamics. As a result of my circumstances I doubt I will be here much on a consistent basis after today.

Maybe those that have been here awhile need to format a formal response that can be immediately posted to newcomers that are here for the first time. You and Satscout seem to both have a very good manner in objectively relating what you see taking place in the dynamics.

Best,
Pal
