If more leaders would have the courage to admit their frailties and stay accountable and humble, we would not need the forum. This is a refreshing admission of humility and openess.

I will throw it out for any discussion. Feel free to share whatever comes to mind -- within reason of course. If any bad memories come to mind, feel free to vent. The floor is open.

It seems to me the guy is beginning to come to terms with his own eventual mortality ....... When your 1/2 way there,,,,,,,you stop disbelieving in "There"

that could be. I am still inclined to say that he got too wrapped up in work and lost sight of the home front. This is why I am getting ready to pound the pavement myself.

blog comment on the topic

" what? pastors are NOT immune from worldly trials....jk!
We all need to be filled/refreshed BEFORE we can fill others. Making time for solitude, quality togetherness with spouse, and time with family & friends are alll equally important. More so to those who minister to others. Sadly most people assume pastors are superhuman!!!"

It has been an occupational hazard of the industry.

I agree with ex-shep's last comment totally. I know I wasn't allowed that time, rejuvenation, and relaxation. In fact if my husband and I were having problems or if we were struggling financially we were asked by the leadership not to even hint at an issue to the congregation because it was a bad reflection on the church.
I'm glad that this pastor is taking time off. I'm more glad though that he realises the pride in his own heart. If only our own SA pastors had recognised that in themselves maybe then we wouldn't have needed this forum.

yeah, you got to do the work of the Lord. Souls are dying. The only problem is where is the rest. Shepherding groups used to burn out people that way. Even Jesus rested as the gospels record.

One church in Texas actually evolved out of a virulent shepherding group. The church was determine to distant themselves from the above mistakes. One leader has no problem with gently taking one aside and asking if a member may want to back down on their involvement lest they burn out.

There was a controversial move where a Saturday evening service was discontinued. It all worked out for the best. One issue was the worship had nothing left to give. They were burning out.
