With the demise of the transit system in our community, I was forced to teach my wife to drive a stick. She was having problems with the shift patterns. Admittedly a bit of character coming from a Quaker upbringing, I finally had to bark out the shift patterns, "Gas!! Off gas. Clutch, Shift second, gas, off, clutch, shift third, gas, off, clutch, fourth". It worked. She got the patterns down and drive 40 miles in the country in the fog.
A couple of men at work asked if I could teach their wives. I think I will pass. I doubt there is going to be a market for it.
In the end, Shelly felt better about herself. It was a great lesson in recovery. The only downside is I am hearing my own commands every time I shift.

:) That's a funny story!
By the way, I'm a "shifter" and have been for more than 20 years. I wouldn't have it any other way.

So far she has driven in snow and ice and on the Ohio Turnpike. The snow was OK. It was pretty. She got the hang of it. Driving on the turnpike did take a toll on her though.
