View Full Version : Why are transitions so difficult for me?

Hey everybody,

I resigned this past spring from a p.t. position I had working with Alzheimer residents and Assisted Living residents (and took some time off from working at the fast food restaurant). After working there for three years I started to feel comfortable and really enjoyed my job! I needed the time off for recovering and then I took the summer off to take care of my nine yr old son who has high functioning autism and to help guide my teenage daughter. Now that they are back in school and I'm not back at both of my p.t. jobs I feel kind of lost. The county licensor will be coming out within the next couple of weeks to finish up the paperwork and "inspect" our home for daycare. Having been self-employed in this business at another location before, I know that within six months I'll probably be extremely busy! But why can't I just enjoy this time now? I guess I'm feeling uncomfortable during this transition and even a little guilty that I'm not bringing in the extra income. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Sheep

(((Sheep))), imho you are feeling totally normal - missing what you knew and (I'm guessing) enjoyed doing. Now you have to get used to something else ... as we heal, I've noticed it'a a lot harder to change jobs because now I actually feel my feelings of hesitancy and trepidation. And they're no fun! As for feeling guilty for taking good care of you, imho that is normal survivor-'tude. It was safer to let them have at us, safer still to not do better to ourselves than they did to us.... but just not healthy. :(

Although ... is everyone back at school? Are you feeling a little lonely? I know that sending them off to school is about 5 minutes of feeling a little teary, then YEEEEHAW after the realization of freedom sinks in!! ;) :D

So imho I think have thought things through pretty well here. And what do you think? Is this maybe a good opportunity to bring this up with your counselor and do what work you can with it so that the next time things shift around, you won't feel guilty for taking good care of you?! :)

P.S. Theres one I would add to bring this passage into contemporary times,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, There is a time to "make" things happen,,,,,and a time to "let " things happen...........
