I turned on the radio the other day, and there was a popular evangelical pastor preaching and he said something like ;

God wants us to listen to our unions, ( this isn't exact)

he said we are to listen to our bosses with out question

that the "slaves" ( what workers were refered to back then)
paul didnt say anything was different nowadays so we are to act the same towards our emplyers.

it made me wonder if it was aform of manipulation. With the way the economy is going mabey more people are standing up for themselves..

i dont know.. sometimes i think i hear things like that in everything now..

that im over reacting because of my pain.

The kings and queens controlled the people with religion, so i think are they doing that now?
I guess ive seen so many things noone would ever expect to see
i probly over react and see more than i should now. Its hard to trust em.

the fruit of the spirit it love.. thats the only way i can tell now.:eek:

Very observant of you!!!!! Try reconcileing what that preacher said with the verse at the top of the forum...!Cor 7:23 gets a bit sticky!!!!!

That whole slaves of bible times are really employees of this era was part of the logic that allowed my spiritual abusive pastor to sexually assult me. My husband was his employee (slave) and the 2 are one flesh (so I'm his salve too!) so I couldn't say no! without being in danger of disobeying the bible....yuck feeling slimey again!!!

This is a great point and very close, I think, to an issue some of us were discussing on another thread the other day. The challenge, I believe, is that just because a "pastor" abuses a scripture to control or manipulate us does not negate the underlying truth of any particular verse in is right instruction, context or truthfulness. Sorting all that out for ourselves is a big part of the journey and why SA is so distructive to people... and I am sure why God is so angered by it. I am beginning to believe that we all have such trust issues, that only God can sort it out for us... and don't many of us have trust issues with even Him?:(

I am sure it's all according to your point of view..... The Evangelical Pastor would say that your over-reacting,,,,,,,,,,I ,on the other hand,would say that your "Right on the money" :D

I have a feeling that may have been the Urban Alternative with Tony Evans. I heard the same theme, in the car, a few days ago. His preaching is sound with a touch of Kingdom theology. I can take what I want and leave the rest. For many of us, his fiery oratory can be triggering.

Once burned, twice shy. Good for you to pick up on theme. Next latte on me.

You're not overreacting at all. You're discerning. Keep on doing it and it will become second nature to you and help keep you safe. :)
