Today we had some pretty bad ice/wintry mix that had started late last night. I got up this morning for work not sure whether or not my school district would cancel school. Usually, they drag their feet and wait until the last minute to decide. Imagine my shock when they had made a decision before 6 am.

School was cancelled today and all were happy. We have few snow plows here, so when the roads get bad we are out of luck. Plus, people here in Texas are famous for not knowing how to drive in snow/ice or rain. For some reason, people think they should go faster instead of slower.

Anyway, my point in posting this was that it reminded me of the days when I worked at the christian school and they would ask so much of us - wanting us to be there all the time, even when the weather was bad they would expect us to have a service or prayer meeting or something. I'm glad I can see how ridiculous that type of thinking is now, even though I had a hard time seeing it back then.

Tonight, hubby and I were watching news when the announcement was made that my school district superintendent was not going to decide whether or not to cancel for tomorrow until morning. I'm sure parents were in an uproar and let him know it because the ice/sleet has gotten much worse today than it was this morning.

I laughed after checking our school website about 45 minutes later when it it said school would be closed tomorrow for sure. I guess some parents had their say. :P

So, I will be tucked away in my warm home tonight and tomorrow enjoying another day off. :)

44 deg Celsius here today. We are having six days in a row like this. Not sure what that is in Fahrenheit ..... apart from really, really hot.

We have decided to cancel life ......... :)

hi everyone,
Since we are giving weather reports on the winter weather, I will give you mine from northwestern Minnesota.
We have had record snow fall and record cold temperatures. In fact, most of the time we have not had a high temperature but only low and lower. The majority of the time the so-called high has been below zero. One day the so-called high was 15 degrees below zero.

However, the good news is that we have a heat wave coming in and the temperature will hit a balmy 20 degrees above zero on Wednesday. I do not know how much snow we have had but it is driving me nuts.:D:mad::D:eek: Whatever!!?? ok

Do you have a low temperature at which they'll cancel school or was it because of icy conditions? We seem to go through almost anything for our kids to get to school...... pretty much don't cancel unless the wind chill is at -49F. Think we've given up on staff or students getting storm days. lol Gayle

Just to clarify- the temperature here today was 45.6 degrees Celsius, which is about 114 degrees Fahrenheit. This was my colour a while ago

I hear that - sounds like an Arizona summer!

Wish we sould get some snow here in southwestern Virginia. We are always just south or just north of any white stuff. Go figure! "Climate Change" just looks like winter to me?! :o

In terms of cold, we haven't had to shut school down just for that. We rarely drop below zero in north central texas. But, if we get any kind of freezing precip, that cripples us automatically.

The ice is supposed to melt today since they said we'd get up into the upper 30's. I don't see it happening though. It is still in the mid 20's and it is almost noon. I'm not sure anything is going to melt.

Hi Gayle,
I do not remember school ever being cancelled due to cold. It is only when there is heavy snow and visibility problems would school ever be cancelled - like a blizzard.
