Not trying to solicit congratulations here, but I wanted to share with the forum family that today is hubby and my 11th wedding anniversary.
We are excited to have made it thus far since we met and married and spent the first 8 years of our marraige in the nasty cult. :P
To this day, I do not regret marrying him (despite where we met) and am thankful that God has given me such a wonderful man to share my daily life with.
We plan to celebrate by having dinner at our favorite local greek restaurant with a bottle of muscato given to us by my best friend.
I am really looking forward to it. I know that sadly many marraiges do not make it after leaving a cult. I am happy not to be a statistic.

Thanks so much everyone! It only adds to our joy to know that others are celebrating with us. :)
We had a lovely dinner of lamb, pita, hummus, tatsziki sauce and spanikopita. It all went very well with the muscato we brought to the restaurant with us.
Afterwards we rented movies and just enjoyed domestic, solitary bliss.
I must confess that my sweet hubby was/is my anchor during all this. He's the only who truly understands the pain of withdrawel from the cult we attended. He patiently prayed for me to see the light after he knew God was telling him that we needed to leave. I couldn't have made it without him, I don't think.
The core of our marraige has always been our friendship. It has seen us through so much. I am truly blessed. :)
Hope 98

Congratulations! It's great joy to hear of such marital bliss. May you both have many many more wonderful anniversaries together and once again, here's the marriage vow to cherish the moment ....
"I, (Name),
Take you, (Name),
To be my (wife/husband);
To have and to hold,
From this day forward,
For better, for worse,
For richer, for poorer,
In sickness and in health,
To love and to cherish,
'Till death do us part." (or, "As long as we both shall live.")

Congratulations, outcast! I am happy to hear that you are happy and that you have such a successful marriage! That's nothing to sneeze at, as not many people do. It's a testament to the people you and your husband are.
People do indeed meet in the strangest ways, as did my parents. Both were vacationing in Puerto Rico in the early 1960s, and each had gone there with a friend. Apparently, the two friends met and saw stars, and they decided to go on a date. Since each was on the island with a same-sex friend, they made it a double date. My mother and father went along on this blind date grudgingly, as neither was terribly thrilled with the idea.
As luck would have it, during the date the friends who had wanted to go out with each other no longer saw stars--but my parents hit it off. Since they were both from New York City, they decided to get together again when they returned...
So, if it weren't for the island of Puerto Rico, I would not exist! I may have no Puerto Rican blood, but I consider myself an honorary Puerto Rican.
¡Viva Puerto Rico!

What a great story! I am glad that puerto rico was the catalyst that brought you into being my friend.
Hubby and I just consider it to be a blessing that we found each other there despite the surroundings. :)
Thanks again, everyone, for the congratulations. You all are too kind.

Not sure what date it is where you are ... but my wife and I clock up our 18th anniversary today (married 19 Jan 1991). Good to hear about other marriages that are going strong (seems almost to be the exception rather than the rule these days!).

That was a sweet story Ameen!:D
CONGRATULATIONS Spiny Norman!!:D:)
((Outcast)) I can relate as my husband has been my confidante through all of the cult BS. He understands in a way nobody else does & he knows I understand him.
Unfortunately the whole cult thingy has made our lives way more stressful than it needs to be...we moved & altered our lives for the group...now there's lot to UNdo, top priority being moving out of state, back to our home, where we belong. (I think you know we moved from everything for the cult). That cult put undue stress on our lives & our family & our marriage, but thank God, we are doing allright!:D:)

Our anniversary is the 17th! Happy anniversary to you too spiny!! Yay. I am glad to hear of another successful marraige-despite-the cult. Wonderful. :)
