I wanted to post some things that after 3 years of freedom I can laugh at because I see the ludicrous manipulative tactic behind it.

In older posts I shared how my cult pastor's wife liked to try to use dreams to control people. That was, after all, how hubby and I became Ananias and Sapphira.

I recently had lunch with a former student of mine who just ended his four year tour in Iraq. This wonderful young man was somewhat of a rebel while he attended the christian school, but I always loved him for his independent thought processes.

He told me of how when he had joined the military he had gone back up to the school to see some of his favorite teachers and old friends before shipping off to Iraq. While on campus, the pastor's wife told him he had to leave because his visit was disturbing class sessions!

His former english teacher became irate with her and told her that she was being very ungodly by not allowing an alumni to visit campus, especially before shipping off to war.

That afternoon, pastor's wife called his cell phone and left him a voice mail claiming that she had "had a dream" that he was really on campus to see friends and teachers and not to be a disturbance. He was highly amused and never called her back.

We both laughed hysterically at her stupidity in thinking a tactic like that would work on him. Then I asked him, "so how is it she had a dream hours after you left campus? Did she go home and take a nap?" WTF!?

Since we both found this story humorous, I wanted to share it with you all. It is sad too, though, that at one time her tactic did work on us and others. But now I see it for the ridiculous mess that it is.

I agree. Now me and that former student make many, many inside jokes about that situation as well as the other stupid things these people did.

Sadly though, she used to use that tactic on the students of the school (since she's the superintendent) by claiming she'd had a dream about a certain situation, when in fact she had gotten her information from one of the teachers.

The teachers were never privy to this fact, however.

It is sad....and funny too, because any sane person can see how screwy it sounds! :D

Hate to say I was guilty of them too. Thankfully that was over 20 years ago and have been long forgotten.

I can think of "The Lord put it on my heart to ..."
"It is God's will that .."

I am bright and manipulative. I could really make something sound spiritual and convincing. I am not proud of it, but neither will I heap ashes on myself in shame. There is analogous quote from the AA Big Book that alcoholics may have a plausible reason for drinking, but falls flat in light of reason. i could really give some great spiritualized reasons for chasing a college across campus to recruit her in the group. Some bought it. Most were not convinced-- just like the pastor's wife.
