My parents were always telling me I would be known by the company I kept. Regardless of who I was I would be judged by the standards of the people I decided to hang around with, well when I apply that to our abusive experiences it appears to apply quite well, does it not?

Remember the old song "They'll Know We are Christians by Our Love?" Maybe there are more realist words to fill in at the end of the sentence?

As my husband says, if Christians are running it you can almost be sure it is not as professionally done as if it were being run by the secular/business world.

Keeping this in mind my first suggestion based on our experiences would be...

""They'll Know We are Christians by:

the way we make up our own rules."

((Ana Marta)) YES! I know that song...in the church I was raised in it was sung.

Funny thing... In the 19 years I was a member of the church cult we NEVER sang that song...NEVER, not once that I can recall.

Because that group isn't about "love" & I don't think that it ever was...:(.....nope.

Thank God we got out....& thank God we dont have to listen to the screaming & yelling & beating down from the pulpit every friggen sunday.

Feels good to be free!
Love ya Ana Marta!

At the fundamentalist Baptist church I was in we couldn't sing that song because the Jesus freaks (early 1970s) were singing it. It was contemporary and we couldn't go to the contemporary. We had to be right and look right and Jesus freaks with their hippy look didn't look right. Huh-uh! No way!

Jesus save me from your followers!

Hi Anna Marta,
Good thought! I have been thinking about this same thing for a long time and have used basically the same quote, 'By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.' I know from experience that for many who profess Christ, there is a real confusion between works of the sinful nature and the fruit of the Spirit.
Here is a crazy thought, what would happen if we start insisting, in a respectful way, that people in the church acting like disciples of Christ. Granted, this statement is a mouth full and I hope everyone takes it in the right spirit.

OMG! You make me think of our first small group here in Norway. One guy had been a drug addict and bank robber and had been on Interpols most wanted list!

The husband of another gal ended up in prison with the reputation for being the biggest fraud artist iin Norway!

Sadly I think I may be the mentally incompetent one... :(

Guess maybe Jesus and we do have something in common...

Stop laughing Jerry...
