Have any of you suffered abuses in the word/faith movement? I am researching this movement for my own sake, since it is popular and I want to protect myself from it. Can any of you recommend good resources/books that go indepth about this movement and why it goes against Scripture?

I have also heard that the word/faith movement has a preoccupation with spiritual warfare (that the devil must be binded) Is there spiritual warfare concept occultic? It reminds me of Wicca in a way.

All the time! I hate it so therefore those people that believe in all of that crap are like creeping in the woodwork down here.
Its everywhere here in subtle ways too.
Name it and claim it.............as if they own God.........drives me nuts. Theres nothing you can tell those people they already know it all so its best just to be soaked into the word (thats what I think anyway). When I say the word I dont mean someone else teaching it to you but asking God to teach you and using your common sense.

I cannot associate with people that believe in that stuff. Its such a shame.

The main problem I have with it,,,is that it turns Gods Word into a "Dog & Pony Show". If I wanted to join a "Circus", I would join "Ringling Brothers" :D

Come one come all !!!!! See "Big Tiny" on the runway of the "Club Bimbo"!!!!!,,,She WALKS !!!! She TALKS !!!!!! She SLITHERS ON HER BELLY LIKE A REPTILE !!!!!!!! :D

off the top Christian Research Institute has done quite a bit on the topic.

www.equip.org

Any internet search should give you more info than you could possibly sort out. I am at work, so my data is not at my finger tips. Apologetics Index has thumbnail info on the topic. Watchman Fellowship, baptist in orientation, should have info. Hope this helps.

Here is my understanding in a nutshell...

The WORD FAITH MOVEMENT TEACHES …
1. There is supernatural power in the spoken word and thought (Positive Confession brings positive results, if you can imagine sometime you can make it happen…)
2. Stress that man is equal to God – Christ in us= we are like God
3. God anoints teachers with special revelations of His will and word they are to teach and preach
4. God’s will is for his followers to have a life overflowing with only good things.
5. Sickness, poverty, failure of any kind are not God’s will for his followers.
6. Emphasize the role of angels and ministering spirits that are at the believer’s command
7. Believe in the biblical Word as well as Rhema Word, which is something God reveals for this day and time. This is equal in importance to the written biblical word (logos)
8. It is the faith of the believer that gives God’s power for healing… little faith=little or no healing

The word/faith movement has the ability to create abuse in the church. The church I came out of was a word/faith taken to the extreme. The problem with this movement is that it is very sneakily sinking into many other denominations, at least in the area where I live.

I do agree with you that the speaking into exsistance and the focus on demons has a very occult feel to it.

My suggestion is to keep your eyes open.

I have been involved in and abused by that movement... yup. The odd thing of it is... I tend to be drawn to those kinds of churches. I just don't go to church. I don't want to go to a boring church and I don't trust myself to pick a dynamic church that isn't abusive or at the least unhealthy. I won't look for any resources since others have provided.

I can relate to the addiction to excitement. The group which Tammy and I were in thrived on chaos. The bible school services were always wild and kept students and church people coming back for more. It is addicting. I have to catch myself if a sermon or music number gets too exuberant lest I go into orbit of disassociation.

I usually go to small churches for Easter and Christmas Eve for that reason. Usually Shelly and I go to Tammy's small church. A "special" by the kids is enough for me. Actually they do a great job just being themselves. Fortunately I can duck out my church by saying I am out of town for the holidays.

Actually I still love the comment you made on the old forum, "I like things mundane. It is a lot saner" I did hear a comment in an AA lead [meeting where a recovering alcoholic tells his story of recovery] from a woman, "My sponsor made me write this down, 'I need to be spiritually guided rather than emotionally driven"
