I write in a former of specific members of a shepherding group. One lady went to take in a 12 step meeting. The meeting was fine. She did not realize it was in building owned by her former group. I assured her creepiness was merited. It was OK to find another meeting.
I use the analogy of fire drills. I doubt many of us ever encountered a fire, but at least we knew what to do in case of the real deal. It does help to have evasive manuevers ready such as what to do when one runs in a former member at the store.
I had to decline a wedding of high school buddy when I found that the person who got me wrapped up in a pentecostal cult was also going to be at the wedding. Xanax had not yet been invented, so it was best to stay home.
