I can really relate with the Indonesia tsunami victims. In one moment, their world was turned upside down. They lost many close family members and friends forever. They lost the environment that they knew as home.

The trauma that the tsunami victims are now suffering is very similar in nature to what happened to me when I left my spiritually abusive church in late 1998. Can anyone else relate?

I would bet that many of us would be great relief workers over there, because we could relate to what they are going through.

Hi Voyager:

I can see the similarities for sure. What has happened in Asia is mind boggling.

For me, leaving wasn't nearly on that scale as I was leaving on good terms - just a parting of the way. Still have friends in the former group and am welcome to visit any time I might choose. I simply don't see that they have made all the changes they should make.

I can relate on the level of having PTSD. I hesitate to claim that I could come close to relating to a natural disaster of that intensity though. I've never even been in a natural disaster. I know a few people who have been in hurricanes and their pain seems a little different. The most recent friend lost part of his home, but was out doing relief work because he was overwhelmed by the massive destruction of everything around him. All the familiar places were gone, friends homes were destroyed. I'm thinking through this... and I see what you mean... loss of friends and familiar places. Yes... I see it.
