Must have been interesting; unfortunately firewalled at work. Oh, well
Ab, cool! ;) :) You aren't the only one here with somewhat of a wild past... :D
Congratulations on the two weeks of sobriety! I know it's tough: my mom went through it cold turkey. While I was growing up, she'd been used to starting her day with beer at 6 a.m. and then she'd make her way through a fifth of vodka by the afternoon. She did this for years - and then I did a "one-woman intervention" on her. I quietly arranged for her to be admitted to rehab. She refused to go; she said she'd quit by herself. She also threw me out of the house and refused to speak to me for 6 months. But after that 6 months (my sister told me she went through some terrible DTs) - voila! We finally had a sober mom. :) :) :)
Re: bands - people have a mistaken notion about this area, that we're all about Motown. No - there were some great white bands around here, too, weren't there? There was a "band scene" here that took in all of SE Michigan... "In the day," it was very unique.
I am going to date myself here, but I remember going to see a band called the MC5 live here in a very small venue... :p   That's not something that I'd widely publicize outside of this forum, especially not in the church crowd in which I currently move... (I wasn't saved then.) Some of their concerts are on YouTube. I definitely wouldn't go to see them again, but "those were the days..."
Congrats, dear Ab! And God bless you, too!
Love,
mary

Dear Abbey,,,
If you want to go inactive as far as posting about SA thats fine, but don't you dare forget that we love you and are praying for ya.You log in whenever you got news and let us know good or bad....You are now and will always be part of us ;)
Love Jerry
Ab, please take what Jerry says to heart! We don't have to talk about SA here (if I'm not mistaken, I once posted a recipe here, for crying out loud, and others have done similar things... ;) I think we even pried a delicious-sounding, Texas menu from HB once! :D ) - but we do care very much about you and we want to know how best to pray for you. So check in every so often, okay? Besides, I don't want to be the only "Motowner" here!!! :p :D (I need another MC5 aficionado around...! :) )
Yeah, on top of the aplastic anemia, I have myelodysplastic syndrome. My hematologist calls it a "smoldering blood malignancy," but he's not going to treat it - yet. Even if I were to have treatment, it would be "comfort measures only," he said, because in order to have chemo., you have to be able to receive blood transfusions, and I can't have any more due to antibody issues. So -- I'm completely in the hands of the Lord and I know it - and I'm grateful to Him for absolutely everything! He put me on this "train" when I was 22 and was told I had "a year, maybe two..." - and that was a long, LONG time ago. And I'm still here. So there's always hope. :) :) :) :)
Ab, just asking you to drop in here if/when you're up for it, okay????

Oh Mary and Abby...I'm so sorry.:( Damn cancer! I'm praying for you both.
Awww, thanks so much, Maggie!!! Abbey and I both know personally the power of prayer. It's the greatest power on earth that we can actually feel, see and know! :) :) :) :) :) Prayer, because it so pleases the One to Whom it's addressed, can kick the daylights out of any malignancy, smoldering or not-so-smoldering -- and that's a beautiful sight to see!

Well, you know what? The Lord has given me only what He has by grace -- and if I help someone, it's Him helping them through me. He'll keep me here as long as He needs me to help His dear ones, and you're one of them! :)
Tell you some details about what God does. When I was 22, I got a bad case of the flu. It hung on for a month or so. Finally, I said, "Nuts to this!" So I got out of bed and tried to resume my normal routine (looking for a job, plus R. and I had just gotten engaged and we were planning our wedding). It didn't work: I started developing spontaneous bruises and hematomas everywhere. Hands, feet, around my waist, etc. Showed them to my mom; she told me to get to the doctor. Long story short: was given a "differential diagnosis" of either aplastic anemia or an acute leukemia. I said, "I hope it's aplastic anemia." Doctor said, "No, you don't. There are things we can do for leukemia, but we can't do anything for aplastic anemia. Your bone marrow is dying and if you have aplastic anemia, soon you won't be making any blood cells at all. We can treat leukemia, but we can't make something from nothing." No: they can't make something from nothing, but GOD CAN! And He did. I don't want to say who was president of this country when that was said to me ( :D :p ); suffice it to say that it was long enough ago that the baby that I had two years later (whom they said I wouldn't be able to have) now has his Ph.D. - and a very good job in the field of fuel cell research. I still have aplastic anemia; I'm still making blood cells (but weird-looking ones, in too few numbers, but enough to keep me alive; some of my counts are too high, though, and that's the cancer) - and I'M STILL HERE. :D :D :D
Bottom line: doctors and their lab tests, etc. are only tools of measurement, observation and sometimes "treatment." They cannot predict with reliable precision how long someone will live. No doctor is our Great Physician. Having frequented hematology/oncology clinics for decades now, I've known a lot of people who were given "two to six months" - and are still around 30 years later. I know a lady who had an advanced stomach cancer and had her entire stomach removed. They told her she had "about a year" to live. She decided to "travel the world" while she could, which she did. That was 25 years ago, and she's fine now. She's a little on the thin side; she's 79 years old and she takes a lot of supplements. But she still travels when she can...
Romans 8:28, Ab: it's still in the book! And I believe it!!! So is Jeremiah 11!
It's all good...! :) :) :) :D I'm in a "win/win" situation! And so is everyone who believes in God's promises to us!!!
Well, as I said, please keep us informed, okay???? I keep you in daily prayer and I know the Lord has plans for GOOD for you, not those other things that appear only as shadows. We have to cling to Him, for there's no other place to go.
Love,
mary
So is Jeremiah 11!
Oops! :o :o :o I forgot to put the chapter in: it's Jeremiah 29:11!!!! See, I get tired and I don't always quote things right... :( So sorry! (That was nuts.)

"He gave me the eye, but I just passed him by; I treated him unkind, but he didn't seem to mind. I told him be on his way, but not a word did he say. He just stood there kind of bold while I treated him so cold...
When the lovelight starts shining through his eyes it made me realize I should apologize, and when he placed a kiss upon my face, then I knew, oh, then I knew, that he won my heart..."
Remember that one, Jerry? Predates "Where Did Our Love Go." Diana, Mary and the late, great Lady Flo. Boy, do I date myself in remembering that one - and yes, that sucks, Abbey, but Valentine's Day is so OVAH!!! Thank the Lord for small mercies like that: it only comes once a year. :D :D :D :D
Remember the Contours? Here, IMHO, are some of the greatest Motown lyrics ever, from "First I Look at the Purse:" "She can be covered in a rash/'Long as she got some cash..."
"What's so good about good-bye? All it does is make you cry. Well it makes me so sad, I feel it's got to be bad, tell me what's so good about it (I could've done without it) - what's so good about good-bye?" - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
More great Motown lyrics, this time from the inimitable Marvin Gaye in "Ain't That Peculiar?" "But if the truth makes love last longer, why do lies make my love stronger?"
Okay, I won't maintain that I'm the only Motowner here anymore! ;) ;) ;) :D But Jerry, I think that was the Temptations on "The Way You Do the Things You Do" - unless the Tops also released it a version of it of which I'm not aware... Eddie Kendricks and all, you know.
Recently, our new church needed to come up with a password for something regarding our new congregation here and they wanted to make it "Motownish," so they did. My personal suggestion for the password was "marvingaye" or "davidruffin" - but that didn't fly with Presbytery...  :) Wonder why????
