I didn't think we were supposed to mention specific groups / denominations here like this? :(

Have I stepped in it again? Sorry, wrist slap accepted.
AM
No, no, Anna Marta, you haven't "stepped into it." I have. :o :o :( :o :o
To the administrators: if my preceding post in this thread is inappropriate for this forum, please delete it without delay. On the other hand, I am addressing the subject of "the 3,000 pound elephant in the room."
Still and all, that post should be deleted if warranted, and I humbly concede that the post should probably be deleted. No complaints from this corner... :o

Woa, sorry, I've mentioned my CLB many times I didn't know we weren't supposed to.....I have found both threads concerning the ReThink conference very informative and interesting.
I merely thought all of the above were a vital part of the on-going conversation that will lead to healing. The more we know and share experiences and knowledge, hopefully, the more it will lead to understanding.
Light shed in certain areas to help us get our bearings... if you will.
The elephant in the room Mary! There are many "big wigs" out there in ecclesia-land that are as confounded as we are sometimes! True? True.

You are right, Marcy! Darkness hates light and will try to banish it, put it under a barrel, or kick it out of "the fellowship" or "the church." Darkness will try to humiliate light and even kill it. But the Light of the world will triumph in the end, and darkness will eventually die its predestined, eternal death.
Maybe the best thing that can be said about the Rethink Conference is that it'll give some of its upwardly mobile attenders some good ideas for running their secular businesses. I notice the studied avoidance of the Gospel or even the mention of Christ throughout its materials. Don't want to "offend" anyone, you know! ;)
This is some of the "rationalization" provided under the "Details" icon on the Rethink Conference web site:
Why are non-Christian speakers being featured at a Christian-oriented conference?
Rethink is a convergence of thinkers, innovators and leaders from the Christian and global arenas. We’re [sic] purposely gathered a group of speakers you wouldn’t necessarily expect to hear at a Christian conference. Our aim is to be immersed in the latest thoughts and perspectives of these respected cultural icons to tap into what’s happening in our world today and to grapple with how we respond.
No, no - a thousand times no! (Once again...) We know what's happening in our world today: it's rejecting God and it's doing it in myriad ways. The devil is in the details and I don't need/want to hear about it. I'm not saying that we should "go Amish" (:)) or something. We need to be involved in the world insofar as we can affect it by our witness for Christ and to act as His ambassador. But we don't give its God-hating ways a corner in our lives.
I don't respect any "cultural icon" who denies the deity of Jesus Christ and/or the ultimate sovereignty of God over everything in this world and in the world to come. I surely wouldn't want to be "immersed in their thoughts!"  Anything that doesn't bring people closer to Christ drives them from Him. That is not good.
(So often I fail in that respect, in endeavoring to be closer to Christ. I hate it when I do, but all we can do is look towards Him as we pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off. The good thing for us is that He's already forgiven us and continues to draw us to Himself! [Psalm 103.]) On the other hand, things like this Rethink Conference can't be good for a bona fide Christian.
(This discussion is fascinating...)
