Just a funny note...

We had guests for a few days. Steinar's sister and husband and some friends drove down from Oslo. :D

I, of course, went whacko!!! And not wanting to suffer alone I took the driver's seat and drove Steinar nuts too! We cleaned and scrubbed and reorganized every square centimeter. Steinar was even on his hands and knees wiping the floors . There was not a cat hair in 100 meters of this place. ;) I had made homemade bread and rolls and froze them so we could heat them up.

This couple is anal about being organized and spotless in their home. So are your spices lined up alphabetically? How about the newspapers, do you initial them after you read them so your spouse knows it's okay to dispose of them?

Needless to say, in this house with an ADD computer genius and composer and his writer, painter etc wife - creativity is the top priority so we're lucky the dish washer gets unloaded some days.

By the time they came late Fri. we were both exhausted. Took them out for dinner on Saturday night so I wouldn't have to cook. They left an hour ago and I am dragging us to bed...

The funny thing is that they are so sweet and loving. The pressure is all on our side. SO we do it EVERY TIME... Exhausted when they get here and dead when they leave. Lazarus and Martha - that's us!

Ready for this? Weekend breakfast for guests is a feast of open faced sandwiches. Several fresh breads/rolls and whole grain crackers, 3 kinds of fish, (pickled herring, Smoked salmon, peppered mackerel) 4 kinds of cheese (brown goat, mild white, caraway seed, flavored cream cheeses) Salted/smoked ham, lamb and several kinds of salami made from different areas of the country, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers, and lettuce for the sandwiches, as well as hard boiled eggs and eggs scrambled w/ leeks in to be eaten with the smoked salmon on top. Juice, drink yoghurts, buttermilk, muesli and fruits in season. And gallons of coffee with heavy cream. Being the only American in the crew I ate hot oatmeal with chopped apples, raisins and cranberries in it. (I hate lunch for breakfast!) AND friends, a linen table cloth! Hence weekend guests are a BIG deal here...

Congratulations, Anna Marta! :D :D :D :D Sounds as though you just went through a similar thing that I did, with the ministers coming here... How do you say "congratulations" in Norwegian, BTW?

I'm afraid I'd be with you as to the menu... Wow. (No herring, mackerel or pickerel, no red peppers, no thanks... :o :) ;) !) The caraway seed sounds good, though!

What's that old saying? "A house is not a home without cat hair..." ;) But one of our visiting ministers is allergic to cats (I later found out) and even though R. and I had cleaned and vacuumed the house thoroughly, and the cats were in their "bunker" (an upstairs bedroom; they're 4 but they think they're still kittens and that everyone who comes here comes to see them), the minister still started to sneeze quite a bit after being here a couple of hours.

I'm an uncertain and usually frightened hostess. My mom had that effect on me. I'm always happy to see people and I usually enjoy my own parties once they get started. It's just that couple of days leading up to the day(s) of the event, and that last hour before people start to arrive...  . I'd rather have a root canal than go through that... and I'd rather have a bone marrow than a root canal... :D Maybe if I did it more often??? Nah...! :o

Glad it went so well... It's a good feeling when all goes well and people have just left and you get to kick back, isn't it?!

Willow,

If only you could you would be so welcome. I remember my first taste of going to Europe and how exciting it was.

I think Americans have exactly the same feeling about Europe as the Europeans do about America.... to visit is just a dream never to come true. After having lived on this side for over 16 years I can see how easy it is to get an idea of a way of life from the news that is very different from what the average person actually lives.

Truthfully, it is safer to live here in Norway than in the states. The government really does take good care of individuals here. For us to move back is a very big step. We are trusting God... :D

Hey... when you move back... I can visit then maybe. Or if you ever want to see Music City USA, I live in Nashville and all you have to do is PM me and I have room in the inn.

Awesome.. do you like country music???

Yes, I do I think it is fun. I would like to learn to do the line dances.

Steinar is NOT a country fan... although I think he may be in the closet when it comes to it. As an old rock band bass player he can't admit it, understand?

I understand. In nashville country finds it's way into all genres of music. Even the rock bands have to do a country song sometimes.
