I spoke with the girl who was my best friend in the cult. We still try to stay close, but it has been hard. She has been wanting to leave for a year or so but her hubby has been afraid.

His main concern is that they don't have a new church home to go to if they leave. I shared with her that we didn't have one either at the time. I felt like the HS gave me a good analogy to share with her concerning this.

I related that a SA church is like a burning house in the sense that if we wake up one night to find our home burning we shouldn't stop and analyze the timing in which we should leave said house. We cannot worry that we don't have a new home to move into. Our lives are in danger and we should just get the heck out. The same is true in a cult situation. Your spiritual life is equally in danger and you have to get out before they can control your mind again. You don't have the luxury of worrying about whether or not you have a new church home to go to. It seemed to sink in.

I would ask everyone to pray for TB and her hubby. She is a few months pregnant to add to the situation and I feel (as she does too) that it would be best for them to leave before having the baby.

I very much like your analogy in comparing an SA church to a burning house that one MUST get out of or suffer injury (to one's soul, at least, if not to one's body). It fits in so many ways. Sulfurous fumes (out of the "netherworld"), danger everywhere (explosive situations).

I will certainly keep your friend and her husband in prayer. I do believe, along with you, that it's best for them to leave before the baby is born. She wouldn't want to be "beholden" to people who would give her a shower or baby gifts or whatever for the sake of convention - when those same people are the ones she needs to get away from. That's a potentially bad scene.

Thanks for giving us this opportunity to pray, Outcast, and for the analogy!

If it is a "Cult" it isn't a spiritual home anyway,,,,,,,,,,,,it's a "Prison".

love the analogy.

Unfortunately most are so much in denial that they don't believe the church is really burning.........they think that they are burning for thinking that way against God.....
