I have the current NACR forum page set to Mixed Threaded; when I go to the page, it is fairly easy to see where the last message I read was, and I just click it then do "Next Message" to read the posts sequentially, i.e. as they were posted.

Is there a way to find out what the "oldest new message" is? and will sequential reading ever be possible, or is that a limitation of the new software that one MUST read in threads only?

Ah well.

Thanks

The 'oldest new message' will always be in a thread that has changed since your last visit. Changed threads have a special icon on the left, have titles in bold and are always at the top of the thread display. So...look at the threads with bolded titles and pick the bottom one -- it will have the "oldest new message".

If you are using "linear display mode", there will be a link in the very top grey bar (same bar as the "Display Modes" selection option) which says "View First Unread". In the other display modes it is assumed that you will look at the graphical display of the thread to find new posts -- which appear with yellow icons.

This software is much more 'thread-centric' than our previous software. That has advantages and disadvantages. Over the long haul I think it will help us stay 'on topic' a bit more but who knows. . .

As far as I know there is no way to skip from the last unread post in one thread directly to an unread post in a different thread. The assumption is that most people will want to see new posts in their context.
