What brought that about? I realize you were being tongue in cheek. Must confess to doing a double take.

I was being tongue in cheek... but had a string of words that would have really helped me vent... or maybe not either.

Willow cussing has always been my main way of venting since I learned to cuss from my neighbors that I loved......I was maybe 12 or 13 years old. I was beaten at home probably not enough for it but its served me ...................'ill' for many a year since then. Its a bad habit in my book if you are trying to be a 'good' Christian.
But...........truthfully I cant make it. being 'good' so I still cuss you are definitely not alone on this one. I wish I could quit and its my lousy attitude that wont allow it I know. Ill probably be cussing in heaven? Maybe unless the Lord changes me and shows me some other way to deal with all of my anger.
Ive always wanted to discuss this problem on here somewhere with somebody that really knows the Lord. Cussing just seems in the moment to say what I need to say and for some reason what I have to say has always needed, (at least to me), to be said!
So what I do when Im on here is start the word and then put stars asterics to cover it.........same amount of letters. I dont want to offend anyone with my bad habit but all the same Ive got to go on being me and for me its much better than what a lot of people do, which is hurt other people really bad like Ive been hurt in these churches.
Im still not convinced that cursing in the bible means cussing. Curses to me are things people say to condemn us or others..........the words sting so bad that its more like a knife stuck in my back or in the stomach, often thats where it hurts me. My husband never cussess and neither did my parents but my Mother and my brother and my husband and now my sister have said things to me that have literally damaged me for life. Now thats a curse! Or what that pastors wife what she said to me or those women, those were curses! Sumbling blocks, because they have caused me so much hurt that I have fallen down and been bruised, I'm bleeding internally from the fall. Cant walk and go on with Jesus, cant witness, cant have fellowship any longer without panic attacks.
Yes thats what is happening when I go to this Bible study with these women. I am under a curse. This one is not some mambo pambo like my silly friend wants to make up coming down from my ancestry its real because my fellow believers did it to me.
To me what they did...........thats the real cursing not what we do because of it.
What do you think about this idea?
By the way let it rip Im right there with you!

Thanks hornblower! One of my coworkers has a redneck horn in her office. It's some hick voice recorded saying raunchy things to other drivers.. road rage.. ya know? It's pretty funny and I've been hearing it blare all day as people walk in and push the button. It actually makes me laugh. There was a time when I wouldn't have been able to laugh at that. I would have judged her and asked her never to play it again and scolded her for having it in the work place...etc. It's good to be more laid back. I'm glad I can relax.
I don't know about the cursing vs. cussing. they are definitely different things. I suppose cussing would fall more under the self-control category... or the "be angry and sin not" category. If letting a cuss word fly keeps you from sinning... then have at it!

Now, this is kind of a fun thread! :D I know what you mean, it really helps to "vent" sometimes. I used to cuss a lot more than I do now, and the reason is I used to have more anger bottled up inside me than I do now. :) But I also don't know if you would get an editorial "slap" for it or not.

Willow, if it's any consolation, I've "cussed" in print here many times in the past (though haven't lately).
Jerry's a pretty moderate, accepting kind of guy!! :D

It is a good question, but why here and just now? You mention anger and that is probably what lies below the urge to cuss I think. Is anger bad? I don't think so. It is a sign that something is wrong and needs attention. I would highly recomend the book or CD set "The Dance of Anger: A Woman's Guide to Changing the Patterns of Intimate Relationships" by Harriet Lerner. I am a guy and listening to the CD has changed my persepective and made me not so afraid of anger.
Cheers

Hey... this has turned into a really great thread!
It's fun when things blossom into discussions like this.
Anger is definitely a good topic. It's an emotion. To me, emotions are neither bad nor good... they just are. My behavior resulting from the emotion is where the problem can occur. And generally cussing would be a mild outlet for anger so long as it didn't hurt anyone.
I probably have cussed here in the past... like Dan. Usually I keep explatives to myself though.

I guess my parent cured me of profanity by their acting like drill sargeants. If it is part of everyday speech, it cheapen one. If one has the occassion to hit thumb with hammer, then something has to be said.
The worst that has come from me has been "expletive delelted" "censored"
"Merrill Lynch", and @#%!*. Anybody old enough for the Wilkerson Sword blade commercials?"

rofl... I use "expletive deleted" a lot, as well as "insert your favorite multiple expletives here". Lately, I've also been using "baka" - a Japanese word usually translated in the subs as "idiot" - or "baka no atashi" (loosely translates to "What an idiot I am..."), depending on the source. That's what I get for watching subbed anime. *eyes twinkling*

That's a good one. Book and chapter please??
I follow the eleventh commandment of Moses,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"Thou shalt not put thy hand to thy neighbor,,,,but thou mayest kick thy neighbors ass " :D
Jerry, I "second" Amy: please give the cite... :) It's definitely "Old Testament-y," but of course, it would apply to us now, since the full counsel of God appears in the OT as well as in the New. So many out there need a good "ass-whuppin'." As long as the Hebrew would translate this eleventh Mosaic commandment's object to "human posterior" and not an animal, such as Balaam owned... ;) :p
Maybe Josephus would have it cited somewhere... :D
As for your new signature: Bravo! I wish I'd had that "hocuspocus" line at my disposal when I was a Catholic. It would have come in handy, along with calling the main parish church "The Big Top" and the guitar Masses held in the gym at the same time "The Sideshow."

My favorite was on a bus in Dallas in a Spanish speaking neighborhood. The drunk got off the bus and walked right in front of the bus and traffic. Under my breath I uttered "Chocoloso". The passengers lost it. It translates "village idiot".
