Could anyone who feels so moved please pray for the 22-year-old son of our Messianic rabbi? He's very, very ill. He's in the Navy; he's in the Navy's submarine school, soon to be deployed to actual submarine service, in Groton, CT. He was diagnosed with severe mononucleosis a couple of weeks ago; it went on to involve his liver and he has some other, multiple-organ involvement. He was hospitalized and then released to the barracks a couple of days ago. Last night, his mother told me, he was readmitted to the naval hospital with some alarming symptoms. She's probably going to fly out there shortly.

He's a fine, Jewish Christian young man who's been witnessing quietly around through his course of basic training and now his submarine training. His first name is Ari...

Thank you so much. I know that the Lord hears and answers each of our prayers on behalf of our ailing brothers and sisters...

this place is not far from us....my husband's boss lives near the base..and she was in the Navy before...

my advice??

Please tell her to take her son to the closest PUBLIC hospital...perhaps even YALE in New Haven- it is a little ride but the reports from the people around there is that the naval hospital isn't that great.

prayers and love to you.

Hey, Jane, thanks! Wow: I didn't know about the naval hospital there having a bad rep. Yeah, I wish he was in Yale Univ. Hosp. Rabbi's wife tends to be a little "prickly;" I'll gently ease into the recommendation with her. Thank you so much for caring... :)

And Lily, you too: thanks for the prayers for Ari... I've never heard of liver failure with mono, but I suppose it can happen... In the short time I've known Ari, I can unquestionably say that he's one of those people - even though he's a tough submarine sailor now! - who's "a little sweetheart..."

Thanks again, and love,

mary

Thanks so much, Janice and everyone...

I spoke with Ari's mom this morning and he's doing better, although still not out of the woods. He's back in the barracks but he's confined to those quarters indefinitely. Ari will definitely lose some time as to his eventual deployment... My husband (a 'Nam vet who served as a quasi, military intelligence, Army officer there) told me that there will most likely be a "medical notation" placed on his record due to this, but we're not going to mention this possibility to Rabbi and his wife. It might not come to pass and really, their son's health is what matters most - and only. They're just so proud that he was accepted to the Navy's submarine corps and of his achievements there so far.

So thank you so much for your prayers for this young man... I had such a nice conversation with him when he was allowed a weekend furlough last fall! I do hope his Navy career isn't too affected by this illness... But then, the Lord's plans are always perfect, especially with regard to His dear children! Who knows what He might be saving Ari from - and for?!

Love to all,

mary

Now Rabbi's son has a systemic strep infection on top of the mono. - he's one very sick young man. And Rabbi and his wife are rather freaked... Ari's doctors keep discharging him back to the Navy barracks and then readmitting him to the hospital when he spikes an awful fever or can't keep food down.

Jane, I did suggest Yale to Rabbi rather than the naval hospital & I sent him its website. (Thanks again.) He says Ari is being seen by Yale docs and he thinks he's "getting good care..." But I don't know... :(   I've heard enough and I'm skeptical.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your prayers for this young dude...

Love,

You know, I think something is going around here.

Last fall I had strep throat. It got really really bad, and they thought I had mono.
turns out for me, no mono......but I was down for the count for 2 weeks.

Now, on a pregnancy board that I joined recently- there are two moms with bad strep throat--- one being tested for mono...
all while in the first trimester of pregnancy.

I wonder if there is a bad strain of strep throat in Connecticut this year....blame it on the warm winter

praying for your friend.

Thanks, Jane... I do hope and pray that you don't get strep: that would be the very last thing you need, in your condition and with those other little ones to take care of. I pray for the Lord's Fatherly Hand of protection and care to be upon you during this entire pregnancy.

Love,

mary
