been reading some of the witches post of recent...

let me get this strait,

Are some implying that someone else wrote the goodbye letter?

Does that mean that someone can take over my avatar and name and post?

That's all I want to know.

Jerry, voyager, anyone computer savy,

CAN SOMEONE WRITE WITH MY AVATAR HERE?

Jane, I'm not computer-savvy and I'm not saying that someone commandeered JL's avatar, but I am saying that it's possible that someone talked him into letting them post "his" good-bye post. Something smells here.

I think this site is secure. I don't think the chances of someone stealing your identity on this site are great or maybe even existent.

I'm with you: Jerry? Voyager?

I believe this site is entirely secure. The only way someone could take over your account is:

#1. If they posted something from your computer while you were away from it (assuming that you don't log off of the forum when you leave).

#2. If you gave someone your username and password.

Other than that, I don't believe there is any other way someone could access your account.

Am I correct jerry?

Dear Jane,,,,
While I can't say it is 100% impossible,,,,there have been some changes in the software that would make that very difficult to get by with for any extended period ;) For a "Forum" that is as open as this one, this one is pretty secure.............

well he said in his first post that he was taking down any links to us. I checked, they are down, so any ideas this being an imposter are wrong.

I think I was the first to suggest that someone was "impersonating" J-L.

Just to clarify, my thought was that someone had access to his computer when he wasn't there. Could happen to me very easily. However, I also thought that someone may have excessive influence over him, effectively making him not "himself".

The reason behind all this conjecture is just that his departure was so abrupt and without warning. I suspect that whatever is bothering him is more likely a misunderstanding than a serious conflict, and I would really like to see him come back so we could try to straighten things out.

I most certainly didn't intend to cast doubt on the security of the software here. That didn't cross my mind at all.

Sorry if I got people worried or worked up. That's the last thing I want to do!

well hope, I post at JL's forum, but im not going to bring his departure up. He did state pretty clearly why he had to leave.

I just hope he will still include me in the forum as it has been enjoyable. And perhaps have a change of heart about this one.

cheers

I guess I was just thinking that JL had been talked into doing what he did by someone who really doesn't know this forum, and the same had been the case with regard to his taking the links off of his site.

If not, if he did it solely of his own volition, he's following his conscience, and I can't fault anyone for that. I reserved the right to follow mine (as appears on his original thread) with regard to someone else and certainly, JL, as he is, I believe, a mature Christian, should be supported in following his. I happen to disagree, but it's his choice and he must do as he sees fit.

I still consider him a brother in Christ for whom I'm moved to pray...:) :o May the Lord bless him richly.

I saw a change in attitude that sharp from the husband half of the couple that originally helped me after I was SA'd. It took some months though. When they started going to the church where I was SA'd (Reformed) it seemed like they didn't want to have anything else to do with me unless they were trying to get me to go there with them. After I told them that I would attend another church they stopped pestering me, and stopped trying to contact me at all. I have contacted them a few times, but they never have time to meet. I'm still sad about that.

I'm not saying that something like this happened to exwitchoz, but am just trying to convey that major changes in attitude can happen fairly quickly.

That's fine. I'm sure that you know him better than I do. Most folks here probably know better than I do.

At this point I'm on damage control, because I posted too quickly and without enough knowledge to say anything at all.

I do agree with what someone said about J-L following his own conscience and for that I respect him.
