Hello Friends
This is a proud and tired grandmother writing to share her joy. Grace Elizabeth was born at 6:40 AM (EST) Jan. 30th. She weighed in at 8 lbs 1oz and 20 inches long. Ostensibly she is 21 weeks early, however the doctors cannot see any evidence that she is pre-term She appeared full term and perfect. She came well formed from the potter's hand. For those who understand medical terminology her Apgar was 8 -9. (out of a poss. 10)
We left for the hosp. at 10:30 Pm. Mommy was admitted immediately and received her much anticipated epidural which allowed her to get some sleep. Roy was unable to bear being there for the procedure so I assisted her. (Being an old nurse does still come in handy:) ) Roy and I took turns using the sleeping sofa/chair to get a few winks. Unfortunately when she needed the anesthesia it gave up! By the time the anesthetist got there she was already pushing.
Grace came into this world starving hungry. I have never seen a baby take to the breast and want to eat like she did. She is a natural nurser and that is a blessing.
We got her settled in her room and Roy disappeared into the nursery to see her first bath and all the wonderful first things. Us women relived things and cried together over the wonder of it all. I am sure you understand. Seeing life come into the world is such a miracle especially when it is your own child having her child. There are no words. Praise God
Thank you all for your love and concern and prayers. I will try to post a pic of her soon. My Viking grampy is Norway complaining cause he is not here. Keep her in your prayers too please.
