Damm I should know this by now, I should remembr that they arent capable of having a conversation without resorting to ad homenims and personal attacks...

A thread on christian forums asking peoples POV about hillsong church... I didnt say much because in all relaity I couldnt comment much given its on a different country. However one of the posters was a hillsong attendee who was full of "gosh OP I dont know how you tolerate the attitude, I would have starting smacking people by now"

When I pouinted out that she didnt have to actually read the thread and that it was her choice to She comes out swinging.... I mean after my experience with the person at rickross and that pastor, I should know that this is what these people are like

The one positive point was that I removed the thread from my subscriptions coz if its still there the temptation would be alot harder as a wise person said once, I need to learn to pick my battles and this one isnt worth the angst.....

thank you all, I feel incredibly better for that rant.

HI
I heard Brian Huston teach at a leadership conference in Norway. It was held at the fastest growing church in the country and I left with my head spinning.

Houston said that people who are tired or hurt (burned out) always want to back away from ministry and the church and that is wrong. They need to do more! I sat there listening to this man's reasoning feeling dumbstruck.

As a former nurse and health education teacher, I wanted to smack him upside the head. He was basically undoing all the good that counselors spend time trying to bang into the heads of those who have been injured or done too much and need to rest. He manipulated people into a guilt corner labeling them as winers whose lives are unbalanced if not out of control.

After doing some research on him and his "great ministry" I could see why he needs to constantly generate people and keep the money flowing lest his supply trickle down to a level where he might have to actually question his nonsensical teaching.

"Father do you want us to call down fire on them?" Boy, do I understand why the sons of thunder asked that question of Jesus!

Thanks for this link.

This sums it up:

Proverbs 23:4
Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!

I've found that people who get really deep into religious extremism tend to strike out at anything that moves. They become unable to tolerate any viewpoint other than their own. I know, because I once had this disease - but thank God I got cured of it. When this disease gets into its advanced stages, people have been known to strap on suicide bombs and/or fly buildings into airplanes.

Hmmm... (Just having a little fun with you, Voyager... - or was this on purpose & tongue in cheek? In that case, it's brilliant! ;) )

Okay, there's this building around here that I really hate. It happens to be a hospital where they really messed me up about two years ago. They almost killed me. I mean, I hate this thing and its nursing staff and its risk management office - to pieces! I had no permanent damages from their malpractice or I would happily have sued them. It's run by a bunch of lowlifes where, I found out, the chief medical officer, an oncologist, is doing some very scummy things. He's hurt a lot of doctors who are friends of mine.

I wonder if I could hijack this hospital (or its cancer center only, when it's unoccupied, because it is detached from the rest of the place) and run it into a (similarly unoccupied) DC-10 at DTW. I think that would fix 'em... better than any stupid lawsuit would have... :D

With love and tongue firmly planted in cheek myself,

mary

I never did get to the body of the article. I was so impressed with the scripture references and context that I stopped there. Good job.

Anna Marta's take on the burnout is rather timely after the departure of the church. I do slow burn when I hear that is wrong to take care of oneself. The personnel drain of the church I just left was a possible result of burnout. There appears to be an exodus of members from where I left even before the issue of the Saturday services hit the proverbial fan.

This is rather ironic because one of the staffers warned against overcommitment. There was another member from New England who noticed the same thing in her former group. There was too much emphasis on volunteerism and subsequent burnout from overwork.

I go to CF too, but have not been there lately...I have given up on trying to talk sense to some there and just tell the dissatisfied, leftie non-fundies like myself where else they can go and be more open about themselves without expecting an immediate attack.

I had to go and look up trogladites, wondered if they were related to trilobites (means I am one huh?). Milan is behind the moon as far as English goes, I am lucky if I can stay with it online. Thanks for bringing me up to modernity. :)

Great article, exwitchoz! Yep, its dat 'ol prosperitee gospel. I'm glad I'm not in that kind of environment now.
