I know we all have had our ideas of what an ideal church would be. I've been thinking about it as I approach our big move to RI, what kind of church I'd be interested in attending when we're there. I think I've come to a better answer. Before I focused on what a church would NOT be...now I think I'm looking for what a church WILL be....
Simple.
That's it...simple. No fancy programs, and ministries and "special groups" or activities. No "women's" or "men's" or "youth ministries". No fancy worship sessions and big bands, no rehearsed sermons and planned outtings that just have to go perfect.
I want simple. I want a humble preacher preaching/teaching the Word of God (omitting the personal opinions and interpretations). I want a humble song leader leading us all in song and in an enviroment that if you're heart is true, you can do no wrong...even if you're off key. I want a preacher who's so honest and easy to understand that the youth don't need a special preacher of their own to break it down. I want a pastor who's engaging. And there aren't any special specific "ministries" because there's no need...if a person walks in the door and is in need...those needs are met. period. No special committee formed to do it. I want a church who's honest about their finances and open as to how the $ is distributed. I want a church that has regular meetings for everything to be discussed and out in the open. I want a church that exists to serve anybody who walks through the door and it's that simple. I want a church that doesn't need a special building fund...b/c how they spend/save the tithes are a true reflection of what the church can and cannot afford. I want a church that emphasizes walking with God in your everyday life...and not just focus on church attendance. I want a church that recognizes that "church" can happen any time two Christians are together. period.
Yeah, I think that's what I want...simple.
