"Whenever A annoys or injures B on the pretense of saving or improving X, A is a scoundrel." ~ Henry Louis Mencken

This game is one of the spiritual abuser's favorites. "Rebuke before all .. so all may fear." Or the inverse of it.. to compliment one as to put down the another.

Anyone familiar with these tricks?

I have had that done but not by my ex pastor..He was smoother...He just made out like he was stupid and had no idea what I was referring too or just looked at me like what are you talking about none of the rest of us have that kind of problem with being that unspiritual. Geesh.... Sorry

Yes. The friends I wrote about on the "spitting nails" thread were literally told by their pastor that he would publicly praise the new (replacement) youth pastor to high heavens to ensure the church would forget all about them.

Hi Jackie! Nice to "see" you here! :)

You raise this topic right when I have been embroiled with a real slime at work. Turns out that one of our clients is even slimier than I first thought - as in he will play any and every trick in the book to set us up to err so that he can sanctimoniously chastise us for said error. This includes leading people to think one thing while he is doing another, pretending to be like Melanie said, "stupid" about things that he infact knows darn well perfectly. GRRRR! Makes my blood boil, until I realize that I really do need to "step sideways and let him go rushing past me, only to crash into the wall he's backed me up against".

We do have to eventually say something, when the time is right, for evil only triumphs when good people do nothing, so discrediting and/or silencing us is one of their biggest tools of all. The slimes!

I read that and wonder if I have been guilty of annoying my pastor with questions about the music in the church. I am an organist who is about to lose my job, even though my playing is not criticized, but my attitude. I am wondering what is wrong with my attitude. I have asked a lot of questions, but I never knew that was not OK!

For one who either volunteered or worked in career placement, the major reason for leaving an employer, current economy not withstanding, is personality conflicts. Jerry is right, it a loosing battle. Many members have quietly updated their resumes and moved on. Of course I wish the best in the situation.
