Hi
I'm new, I left a church 18 months ago, after 7 years 5 of those as assistant pastor. 2 years prior to leaving I sent my daughter to another church, the senior pastor was abusive (verbal, emotional and spiritual) to the children and teens. Recently my daughter found out that this pastor was starting a youth group at his church, and had targeted some of her friends. She is very angry and of course it brought up a lot of stuff for me. Anger mostly not understanding how the denomination could let him continue doing what he was doing, and wondering why the other pastors in town never said anything, except for behind his back.
My daughter asked me to call some of her friends parents and tell them so I did. Then of course all of those guilt feelings started. I think I will gag if i ever hear "touch not my anointed" again. But I started feeling like I had done something wrong even though I knew I hadn't I mean if I knew someone was a sexual predator and knew that a child was being led into his lair wouldn't I say something? Of course but I can't shake this feeling.
The year before I left the church all I did was bandage the wounded and get them to safety while bleeding to death myself. The one's who left wont talk about it "touch not my anointed" and the ones who are there have been told to stay away from me.
any input/insight would be appreciated I have forgiven, but everytime I hear of another person being lured into the web, I get furious.
Thanks and blessings

You're doing the right thing. I spoke out for over five years, and they finally ousted my former abusive pastor. Of course, I went through the same hell you are going through. It's not easy.
I agree with Voyager - it's a tough road but your daughter is so fortunate to have a father with the courage that you have. My parents didn't remove us from our church until the Pastor threatened to burn our house down, and all the teens in my teen group were told to ignore us. You may have saved your daughter from years of self-doubt and warped perceptions of God. I'm proud of you - hang in . Elle

That "touch not God's anointed" is such a misused and misleading quote.
They would have us believe we should allow sexual abuse (and some groups do) using this scripture to prove they are in the right.
If something is wrong....It's WRONG! You did the right thing.

"touch not God's anointed"
WHERE DOES THE NEW TESTAMENT SAY THE PASTOR IS ANNOINTED IN A WAY THAT'S DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER BELIEVER?
IT"S NOT THERE!!!!!!!
You are free to quote me on this next statement:
ANY PASTOR THAT CLAIMS IMMUNITY FROM CRITICISM BECAUSE HE IS "THE LORD'S ANNOINTED" IS A FRAUD... A HIRELING.... AND PROBABLY A FALSE TEACHER.... AND SHOULD BE DENOUNCED AS SUCH! AND NO! I WILL NOT MAKE ANY EXCEPTIONS!!!!
That kind of damnd bull manure just makes me see red.... Of all the blankety blank blank arrogance!!!
That Bozobutt is NOT Jesus Christ....
Run for your life and don't apologize for calling an ass an ass.
(Deep breaths.... count slowly to ten... slow deep breaths....)

My wife and I happened to be reading I Chronicles 16 when v 23 came up. The passage in context was the celebration of the return of the ark of the covenant to the Temple. I have to do some digging. I get the impression it is to the godly ancestors who kept the faith. It is only a verse in passing, so it is hard to get the context. Any hermenuetical takers?

I have heard that "touch not mine anointed too". I don't understand it. The first time I heard it I was confused. One time I wrote out this thing that I wanted to say to the pastor in response. I thought it was good. But I could never say it. I then felt guilty for saying anything in opposition and for even thinking it. They want us to think that though. I believe in pentocostal gifts but I have not seen a church I would feel comfortable in. I haven't been to church for several yeras. not regularly anyway.

Of course you were confused(1 Chronicles 16/18-22) does not speek of an individual. The verse states anointed ONES,,,,,plural meaning Isreal in general. The correct quote is "Do not touch my anointed ones,And do my prophets no harm."These "Pastors" that twist that scripture to validate their authority,,,,need a swift kick in the butt :D I suspect that you have pretty good "Disearnment",and that is why you were confused.Something just didn't sound right ;) Good for you :D
