Dear Janice,,,,
I doubt that your computer is not salvageable..........I suspect it may only need a reformat of the hard-drive ;)

Have the profis diagnose your problem. If the hard disk is damaged, have them put all of the content, including your emails, from the hard disk onto a new one. I have been through a few crashes. In the last one they were able to save the information onto a new disk (the whole computer was shot so we needed a new one), in the one before that there was physical damage to the hard disk so that we lost everything.

It's so wonderful that now, even if your CPU has entirely "expired," you can have a complete data transfer done at a minimal cost. Mine was only $15 at CompUSA. I was amazed and delighted.
Janice, I hope your repair is as trouble-free as possible!

Hello
The Genius said a lap top can overheat if the air filter is clogged so it is shutting down, been there...
A regular computer, could be the CPU fan is bad, been there too...
It is possible to take a complete back-up of your disc so that you aren't in any danger of losing valuable stuff. Can do this onto CD's DVDs or good old fashioned floppy discs.
Good luck

When you reformat, you'll lose everything. You might try a small program I discovered awhile ago as it is free but looks for and fixes problems with Windows that Windows doesn't always recognize on its own. It often fixes freezing problems. Go to CCleaner.com (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to read about it and then download it if you'd like to try. This is only a recommendation because it works for me, though. I don't know the people who created it and can't make any guarantees. Hope it helps. :)

I just remembered that when I've recommended the program before, some people didn't realize there were two functions that could be performed since there is a default screen. There are buttons on the left that change what can be done. Both must be used for true success: Cleaner and Issues. So, if you didn't notice the Issues option, you might want to try it, as well. ;)
