I stumbled upon the article. The group leaders graduated from the same bible school. I am not an advocate of exit counseling, and have not since the mid Nineties. I can understand why the parents did what they did.

I am not sure what exit counseling is.....but if you can understand why the parents did what they did; you might want to send a letter.

It bothers me that the pastor didn't finish his degree....and that the parents can get a life time in prison for thinking that they were rescuing a child. What an awful thing a church does when they divide a family to that level.

If I were pastor, I would advise her NOT to press charges against her parents... I would think that they would be concerned about the parents understanding the compassion, forgiveness and grace of Christ.

Jeezo. Just when you thought you heard everything, parents in jail for life because they love their child and think that they are helping.... maybe a restraining order would be sufficient if the child/ adult now was that upset by the action.

I agree... a REAL pastor would counsel the girl to not press charges that's how we could tell the difference between a real one and a fake one.

This is such a sad story!!!

What happened here was actually the old form of deprogramming, something that has fallen into disrepute because of the forcefulness of holding someone against their will. Exit counseling is similar but is voluntary; the person is not held against their will.

As a parent who had to deal with a child who was caught up in the mindset of the cult, I can really relate with these parents. It is such a difficult situation!!!

I so hope that if this goes to trial that the jury is understanding toward these parents!

I may know the pastor. I am not sure. The bible school would do everything to keep it out the media limelight. If the pastor's wife is who I think it is, she may itching for a fight. It could get interesting, that's for sure.

I am sure the parents saw the abrupt change in behavoir, prompting the action. I have seen some horrific changes in the personalities of the students. It was wild.

When you see this kind of thing it must just make you heart drop. To know what these people are going through. Way too much stuff for everyone. You know the parents were desperate and then on this side of it... the possible out come is just way over the top... the rest of their lives in prison? It's all so frightening!
