My husband stopped in to our church this a.m. and picked up a bulletin from the morning's services. (For those of you unfamiliar with a bulletin, it has announcements, calendar info, etc.). In large print on the inside cover was a list of four items that the leadership apparently thinks people in the congregation should be searching their hearts about. I have since thrown away the bulletin, and I don't even remember points 1, 3, or 4, but point 2 is seared into my brain. Point #2 said this: "How would Jesus view your arguing and complaining?"

Now, I know that there are all kinds of "arguements" against "arguing and complaining", but knowing the leadership the way I do, I am convinced that this is their way of squelching any "arguing and complaining" that is going on - even if the "arguing and complaining" are actually legitimate questions being asked and concerns being expressed. They must be getting lots of what I am sure are "questions and concerns" and it's making them nervous enough that they feel they must put a stop to it ASAP.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are hearing sermons along the same lines as well. Can't have anyone disagreeing with the CEO and his little band of merry "yes" men. Grrrrrrr!!!!!

I would have been triggered by it too Florence. Here is my paraphrase on a statement like that:

"Did you forget that when you joined this church you gave away your right to think for yourself? Rumor has it that you may have begun thinking for yourself again. How would Jesus feel if He knew that you betrayed Him in such an evil and Judas-like manner?"

That's why I cannot even go into a church again. I now have rose-colored glasses - colored with 12 years of charismatic witchcraft and psychological damage that occured after I "gave it all away" to Jesus. The worst damage occured when all of the relationships were severed in such a hostile way. I have no interest in trying it again.

The last time I attended a church, the pastor pre-qualified the altar call for the sick by telling everyone that only those who had attended all services in the last month would be allowed to receive prayer. It was an AOG church in the midst of "revival".
