In another thread someone asked if I knew of books I could recommend to help people work through the abuse they suffered. Although I have not yet had funds available, I was encouraged to read two books in particular by a man who does counsel others regularly in this area. One of the two books is nonChristian but he said it is one of the best he has seen in the area of recovery (it allows you to be angry while some Christian books don't deal well with anger). He recommended reading it while keeping Biblical principles in mind, maybe praying before each reading session.
The two books he suggested are:
The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse by David Johnson, Jeff VanVonderen
and
Take Back Your Life by Janja Lalich and Madeleine Tobias
Take Back Your Life is an updated reworking of the book Captive Hearts, Captive Minds by Madeleine Landau Tobias, Janja Lalich, Michael Langone.
