View Full Version : A meditation on "Come unto me" for Little Lamb et al...

I just visited a site for the chronically ill which I have liked in the past and found this recent meditation. The affirmation was "timely" for me and I thought others here might like it as well...in particular Little Lamb and Hornblower who have posted about their fatigue and difficulties of late.
If interested, this is a service of "Rest Ministries" and this specific meditation is at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/chronicpaindevotional/message/2746
The author of this meditation was commenting on how badly she felt at not being able to offer the kind of service that her church was "expecting" of her. The final comment:
The burdens that go along with illness are many: mobility
problems, lack of strength, lack of energy, pain and
depression are just a few of our afflictions. Don't let
the enemy add to the list. Instead, hold fast to Jesus
and know that His love is more than sufficient for us. We
don't have to "do" anything but accept His love; we don't
have to "be" anything but His. After all, that is what
gives life purpose!
Grace and peace to you all this night.

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)
I suffered from Fibromyalgia for over 15 years, so I can understand the mobility and energy and pain issues of sufferers of chronic illnesses. However, for the last three years I have been Fibro Free, thanks to Jesus!
However, I am wondering about this pain concept...... Right now I am in spiritual and emotional pain. :(
I would say the burdens of spiritual pain are depression, lack of faith, despair, doubt, anger, and.......
It would be wonderful to find out if anyone else considers themselves to be in spiritual pain - so much that it feels like the heart and soul are in physical pain - and to figure out how to treat THAT kind of pain. Aspirin and Tylenol don't work, unfortunately.

But YES...unfortunately I do understand this dilemma. Will be interested in seeing whether others have more helpful thoughts for tonight.
Thanks for your response.
Hang in there!

thanks for starting this thread and for thinking of me and others, Theodora
illuminated-- i relate to what you're saying. spiritual pain is the worst. Right now I'm not feeling that way (although it being a Sunday morning is harder for me), but I've sometimes felt that my heart hurt so much and was in such anguish that all of me hurt--body definitely included.
He loves us so much. I'll pray that He would just pour His warm healing love into every single hurting crevice in your heart, and that you'll be able to experience His closeness. Our messed-upness doesn't drive Him away--He just really really loves us when we're hurting. (I know you know all this--I've started crying because I just really feel with you.)
love,

I read what you wrote in your other post about hubby....
One day when I was talking with my friend, I'll call her Friendelle, who has 10 children, we were talking about how she was trying to meet all of the needs of her children. Then Friendelle mentioned - 'And most of the time, I really have eleven children because hubby has his needs that must be taken care of too!' and then she rolled her eyes, as did I, knowingly.
Each day one of Friendelle's children was designated as 'Child of the Day'. That child was a special helper to Friendelle all day, and also received special attention from Friendelle because the child was right at her side all day. I think one of the things (other than receiving God's love) that gives life purpose is to give attention=love to our children.
We receive God's love, and then give it away! I think your life is full of purpose!
Friendelle often thought that every once in a while her hubby should be designated as 'Child of the Day' so he wouldn't feel left out.:)
Do you homeschool your children?

yes, we homeschool . In general i've loved it in spite of the frustrations because i get to be with the children and share experiences with them. But because i ran my health into the ground we've gone up and down the last few years. Two of the years i had someone to help me with the teaching. We're "behind" at this point, which weighs on me some of the time. But i think it's redeemable by God's grace.
thanks :)

But i think it's redeemable by God's grace. That is so true. I just can't see where God has a timetable laid out for us to meet as a requirement for using our brains to His glory!:D
Friendelle and Hubby always try and hear from the Lord when they are making decisions. When Friendelle's oldest child got to the Algebra II stage (they homeschool) Friendelle said to Hubby 'I can't teach him this anymore because I don't know it.' Hubby said 'Well, I can't teach him either, because I don't know it!' They looked each other in the eye, and said, in unison 'Well, he goes to school then!' and started boisterously laughing! :D
