Hi there!

Hey...I was just wondering something... Am I the only one here who went sort of "nuts" after I left my cult and found "freedom" for the first time? I mean, I did nutty things like getting in my car at 1:00 am and driving around the block BECAUSE I COULD! I did a bunch of other things, too...some not too wise...because I didn't know much about the world...

Is it only me who was like that?

Jerry...can you explain? I want to know if I'm the only person who just did weird stuff right after leaving the cult?

What about being afraid of words or being "triggered" by stuff...what kind of stuff? What kind of words? Anyone?

:0)

(((Hannah))), you are so not alone! I think it's a normal reaction, like you said not the healthiest, but it's like we are small children and our teacher has left the building .... WATCH OUT WORLD!!!! ... which is why teachers don't do that! ;)

Seriously, it's like we are now free to actually BREATHE!!! And yes, our triggers and reactions will all be unique to us and how we have been wounded and when/at what age we were wounded and ... and .... for me the main thing is to maybe stop and ask myself how wise is this intended behavior "really" ... but not be guilty about things, just ... be grownup/responsible as much as I can, figure out how to safely "let loose" when I think I really need to, and just trust that God's love will help keep me safe throughout this healing time. :)

Hannah,

I think Jerry is just saying he is still acting like this even years after being out :D

Today was my first Sunday at our new church. How wild and crazy was I??? Well, I wore jeans and dancing in the aisles! :D Not exactly the type of behavior exepted at the old place of worship! I can't drive around in my car at 1am, I think they would call that child abandonment since I am a single mom!

Free at last ... free at last ...

One more thing... I am so triggered by the word "enabling" This was what the pastor and his wife told people they were doing whenever they tried to reach out to a person in need. "People just need to learn to stnad on their own two feet" was the motto there. Even after my husband dies and I was left suddenly with a 1 and 4 year old to care for, it was "enabling" when a friend from church would come and watch the kids for an hour for me, or help with the housework. I am a firm believer that we ought not to enable those in our lives to continue on with abusive or addictive behavior, but I think it was the blatent misuse of the word as an excuse to not reach out to our brothers and sisters in need that really got me.

Just throwing in my 2cents for what it is worth.

Dear Hannah
Isn't it strange how the powers that be in some Churches encourage you to experience joy,,,,,,,then when you do,,,,,,label it as weird?????? Matt7 verses 31-35
As far as triggers,we need to learn to moderate our outward reaction to them to make those reactions sencable.I accept my triggers as a blessing,,,,calling them my "Early Warning System" :D
