Chorus: It will be worth it all when we see Jesus, life's trials will seem so small, when we see Christ; one glimpse of His dear face, all sorrow will erase, so bravely run the race till we see Christ.

This really helps me, it was going through my head the other day and just wanted to share it. I may share others when I think of them. Anybody else know of any others?

This song was written by Esther Kerr Rusthoi, 1909 - 1962.

My favorites

Just as I am
It is well with my Soul
A Mighty Fortress

I never lost my taste for bluegrass gospel and southern gospel after I left. It never seemed to trigger me. I could listen to the lyrics, enjoy the music and not go off into PTSD orbit.

There was a time where I could get more support from a Bach cantata than the best sermon.

Great post. I wonder what other contributions are in the wings.

[I readily admit one man's meat is another man's poison. That said, immediate apologies to anyone triggered. I know pentecostal chorus will do me in faster than Kryptonite}

One of my favorites is "Does Jesus Care?" Even the title speaks to me, especially since I often felt like nobody cared...not even Jesus....until He showed me how much He really does care. Below is a link to the lyrics and a MIDI file.

As for "newer" songs, one of my favorite songs that I have been ministered by, and have ministered to others with, is "He Will Look After You" by Cheri Keaggy. It's a good song based on Matthew 6:25-34. If anyone wants the lyrics let me know and I'll post em.

I could listen Cyber Hymnal for hours. Great resource. Notes are references are well done. My understanding is a couple from Kansas City run the site. It is a real labor of love.

we didn't think people still listened to these songs. in church groups we have been in people seemed to want to not sing them - some said they were depressing because they talk about pain and hard times and that Jesus didn't want it to be that way. so we stopped playing them. churches we were with stopped singing them pretty much. the conference sent new books. out with the old. in with the new - classic hymns with more classic arangements. said they couldn't relate to the old songs.

it makes mixed feelings cuz we used to play them.

and we prety much quit playing when we put those away. ninas.

I get triggered by any religious music. I never listed to it anymore at all. I find comfort listening to 80's classic rock. About the closest I get to religious music is Bon Jovi's "Livin On A Prayer".

I can relate on that one. There was a period I could not stand Christmas carols because I felt like I was being preached at.

A song that I like is "Beyond The Sunset" by Virgil and Blanche Brock. It was written in Winona Lake, IN (where I lived for 15 years) after describing the sunset over Winona Lake to a blind man. I like it for its history (http://www.songtime.com/hymn/hymn1004.htm), and I like it for what it describes - hope. It's not depressing. There's beauty here on earth, and there's beauty in heaven to come.

Wow, great posts and great songs. I love "Just as I Am", ex-shep. That's one that I learned to play somewhat by myself. I just pick on the piano, is all I can do. But I love that one.

And "Does Jesus Care?" is a good one too, Lvanett, I know what you mean about it, I've been there a lot.

And I've heard that song, "Beyond the Sunset", Candy, it's beautiful, and that's really neat info about it.

I was just going through my Bible cover awhile ago and saw some papers with different songs written on them. So many favorites. A couple though are:
"What A Day That Will Be" and I have always loved "Mansion Over the Hilltop".

I want to share more, even new ones, and possibly choruses, but also want to hear about yours too, I think this is neat. Thanks, Dawn

A song we stumbled onto a few years back is called "He has forgiven me" recorded by Damaris Carbaugh. It has a lot of meaning and I chose it for the song I sang at my brother-in-law's memorial service in 2004. That was the first (and only) time visiting the group since we left and the first time I had performed anywhere other than another funeral for about 5 years.

There are scads of good songs out there and they range the gamut from gospel to contemporary Christian (which we began listening to in 1995) to old standards to classical to bluegrass, pop and country.

Here's an older one, by Ira Stanphill:

He washed my eyes with tears that I might see,
The broken heart I had was good for me;
He tore it all apart and looked inside,
He found it full of fear and foolish pride.
He swept away the things that made me blind,
And then I saw the clouds were silver lined;
And now I understand 'twas best for me,
He washed my eyes with tears that I might see.

He washed my eyes with tears that I might see,
The glory of Himself revealed to me;
I did not know that He had wounded hands,
I saw the blood He spilt upon the sands.
I saw the marks of shame and wept and cried,
He was my substitute for me He died;
And now I'm glad He came so tenderly,
And washed my eyes with tears that I might see.

There's a contemporary song called "Just as I Am" by Andrew Peterson.

Chorus:
Just as I am, just as I was, just as I will be, He Loves me, He does
He showed me the day that he shed His own blood
He loves me, Oh He loves me, He does

Last verse:
It's time now to harvest what little that grew
This man they call Jesus who planted the seeds has come for the fruit
The best that I've got isn't nearly enough
He's glad for the crop, but it's me that he loves

I love that song!

;) HOW GREAT THOU ART
For all the kids in us and you:
This is our Father’s world
And to our listening ears
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
All nature sings and round us rings
The music of the spheres
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
This is our Father's world
we rest us in the thought
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
Of rocks and trees of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
This is our Father's world
The birds their carols raise
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
The morning light the lily white
Declare their Maker's praise
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
This is our Father's world
He shines in all that's fair
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
In the rustling grass we hear Him pass
He speaks to us everywhere
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
This is our Father's world
we rest us in the thought
Of rocks and trees of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought
