View Full Version : Christian Comedy a relief in Portland Oregon

There is a Christian sketch-improv comedy show in North Portland that I have found to be a wonderful place to spend my Friday nights. It's not overly preachy, and it's anything but stereotypical. They have live music, dance and of course the sketch comedy. They say at the beginning of the show that people take life too serious, and God not serious enough, so their job is to make fun of life. And they really do! It's an amazing show.

They closed down for December and reopen with a free show on January 13th. You can check them out at www.jam-night.com (http://www.jam-night.com). It's a real grass roots thing but they have been doing it for 3 years and have gotten really good.

Part of my problem with the church at large is we don't provide enough outlets for REAL life. Everything is a 'special' group, or acting spiritual, but between all of this we still have to deal with the daily trappings of life. Jam Night is a glass of cool water, it's a safe place where I can relax and don't have to be "deep" but just enjoy some God-given humor! I am looking at volunteering with them, but maybe I will just keep coming and having a good time!

....and, I've no doubt that you are right on two counts....at least!...;) I also think that the church misses the mark in not offering more to help us deal with real life (a key purpose for the existence of the National Association for Christian Recovery!)...AND....no doubt we'd all be strengthened in our life AND in our faith-"walk" if we lighten up!

A question---are you referring to Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine? (Or...is there still another "Portland" I don't know about?)

Again---I'm glad you've found something which helps you and I thank you for calling it to our attention.

I'm assuming you're new here, so let me also welcome you to the board(s). Please do feel free to post as you feel comfortable doing so---on either board, "as the spirit moves you!" (The NACR open forum, which is where I mostly post, is a more general board with a broad range of issues for those recovering from "addiction, abuse, or trauma." Sometimes the "spiritual abuse" issues overlap with others, so it can also be helpful---I've found---to get some additional perspective by those on NACR as well. In any case, as I've told folks here before, mostly what I've experienced in the churches might be classified more as "spiritual neglect" than spiritual "abuse, " so I don't always respond to threads on this board.)

Grace and peace to you and yours this day--

...and I see that I read too hastily and that this club WAS identified as being in Portland, Oregon, and not Maine.

Sorry for posting out of my muddled state of mind!
