well,

we went trick or treating for the first time in almost 15 years.

We haven't turned to salt. Our children aren't suddenly into satanism-- well, ok maybe they act like it from all the extra sugar....but no, they still love Jesus.

We had a lot of fun, met some kid's families that he knows from school.

and now, we indulge in snicker's bars, baby ruths, m&ms.....hmmmm maybe that is the satanic trap, maybe it isn't the witches and goblins but the extra pounds that we'll put on.

honestly. It was good clean fun and I am glad we went.

My nine-year-old went trick-or-treating for the first time in his life last night. Went with a neighbor and her children while I stayed home and passed out candy! (My husband wasn't home.) He had a blast! Today's question from him, "Mom, is trick or treating bad?" I told him, "You had fun and you got candy. It's okay!"

My daughter got dressed up and went to a party and she had a blast.
(Don't tell anyone, while she was at the party I listened to secular music)

My wife and I threw a Halloween party for our two daughters and their friends. There were about a dozen girls here screaming and running around

All the girls were dressed in costumes. They hit a pinata, bobbed for apples, danced and listened to their favorite songs on the radio (loud), and played a few other games. Then they watched "Herbie Fully Loaded" on the big screen TV. We had brownies, ice cream, candy, and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows on the campfire.

Believe it or not, no demons showed up all night!

This year was my first year to actually enjoy and participate in Halloween.
Some of the stuff I saw was quite disgusting and frightening, but I was able to take it as a costume and a form of "play". I enjoyed the dark side of fiction as a child, but got reprimanded for it. I'm not sure where along the way I lost the freedom to read scarey books, watch scarey movies and participate in Halloween. I suspect it has everything to do with the church and indoctrination though.

Hmmm.....

This was the first year I ever deliberately did not observe Halloween. There was a previous time or two, but those had to do with something that got in the way.

The only reason I could give anyone at all, was that deep down in my gut, I felt it was something we needed to do this year. Just us, just this year. No guilt about previous years or sense that I could never carve a pumpkin again. No judgment toward anyone else.

It's kinda funny to see all these posts about people who celebrated for the first time.

Hope I haven't spoiled your fun :)

Hey Hope... confession is good for the soul no matter which thing you need to do to grow. Sounds like you were just on a different path than most of us posting in this thread. For myself... I've been trying to deprogram for several years now. This is just one step farther in desensitizing myself to things that I was inflexible about in the past.

every year my former church had a huge alternative event in a park that we went to......I always sort of censored my little girl's costumes and made sure they were "appropriate" princesses, angels, basically good girls.....etc

Every year I dreaded the annual 'choose a costume- a- thon" because she wanted to choose something "inappropriate" and I was the Moral Costume Patrol and needed her to be "appropriate".

Well, guess what? This year it took 10-minutes..... I started letting down realizing I had no "Moral Majority" to please and realizing that my actual standards were much looser than theirs and --------- yeah --- we got ourselves (it was actually called this) a hip, funk pirate costume!!! yeah!!!! complete with skull and cross bones on the front! I laughed so hard - she's 8 years old, looks so cute and it was so much more fun to spend the night doing the trick or treating instead of the "forced fun at the park thing":D :D :D

My Halloween was different too....

My rebellion against the evil ways of my church was why I wasn't going to participate in the annual....manipulate, exploit and use our people-a-thon, known to the public as "Hallelujah Night".

I had decided weeks before I would not participate. This has been a sore spot for me for years. Pastor annually has a mtg. and decides who will work the booths, etc. After a small amount of discussion, he would personally call each and every person and tell them, "Your pastor needs you...I don't know what I'm gonna do if you can't come." Total manipulation and guilt trip.

I mean, we're talking young couples asked to find a sitter for their children so they can "work". I was personally told, "Grandma can take your kids around can't she?" We need you.

SOOOO many mothers would call me feeling guilty....b/c ,"Well, it's just one night, right? My 4 kids will be okay for one night with uncle Joe? Won't they?"

This year, as we are planning our expose and exit from this disgusting place we call "church", I endured the long and desperate cries of my children as I broke the news that we weren't going. This broke my heart for them....

They have done nothing wrong here. They don't understand when mommy has to stand up for what is right. (I didn't tell them that, btw... I only told my 2 daughters, 5 and 7 that I didn't think we would be able to go this year. This was met with tears and questions.... I just said, "We'll talk about it tomorrow and see..."

This is how I know God loves me. HUGE THUNDERSTORM on Halloween. Blew away the booths, even knocked down the church's big, "we're so great" sign.

"Hallelujah Night" was cancelled.......due to the storm.

I love God.
