What OS are you using Jane? Is it WinXP or something older? Have you gone to Windows Update at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com lately and installed the latest Windows updates? If not, you may want to try that first. I heard one other person on here a while back saying that this was happening to them when post here too, but I cannot remember who it was.

Jane, I have a similar problem--computer freezing--only on this site, only after I log in, and only if I've logged in from my personal desktop, not the others available on this computer. Scan shows no viruses. Can you do a virus check on yours?

Guys :)
"Freeze Ups" are usually caused by "Voltage Spikes" in the power supply.Example;your online and the furnace blower starts in your house causing a temproary "Low Voltage Spike" which causes a fatal error in your desktop program.
The other way a "Freeze Up" can happen is an error in data transmition which can occur anywhere along the url path from your computer to anywhere. It isn't necessarly an error occuring at the server of origin. The micro processor is like a whole bunch of swiches that are either "On" or "Off".A freeze up is when one of these swiches gets stuck in nuteral.I suspect that the weather of late all over the country is the culprit in most freeze ups.You can cut the odds of a "Freeze Up"by going offline after the responce page loads to compose your post, then reconnecting to submit.Thats how I did this post,,,,,I one finger type so as you can imagine Freeze Ups REALLY,,,,piss me off :D ,,,,Hope this helps,,,, All you can do is blame the system in general for "Freeze Ups",,,,There really is no way to tell what causes any given "Freeze" event. ;)

Another possible reason - but unlikely if this occurs only on this site - is a memory leak. We have a PC that suffers from this and if left on for a long time will refuse to do anything. A restart is the only solution. Some programs don't release memory after they are closed and some apparently cause an actual 'leak' of memory over time. I'd like to see a software program that would detect these.Doug

I have this same problem too. But only when posting to this website. If it were power spikes or memory leaks, then wouldn't this problem be occurring on other websites, and in other applications?

I seem to think that it must be something that this site causes. There have been four people complaining of this now, so it must be an issue with this site. I have never had it happen to me, but for it to happen to four different people points to some kind of issue with this forum. I wonder if the author of the forum software has any new updates available? Hang on, I'll check.....

I just checked out their website at http://www.vbulletin.com/ and they are showing version 3.5.0 as the latest version. It looks like this forum is still using version 3.0.8, which may account for the freeze-up errors. If you can get the Admin to update the forum software, I'll bet the error will stop.

As a matter of fact, I just checked the forum software troubleshooting forum, and someone posted about this very error. The software developer tells them to update the forum software to the latest version:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=160057

Sounds like someone needs to PM the Admin about this.

The Admin should also read this post:

It looks like the forum software needs to be updated.

I just lost a long post too. Arrrrrrrrrrgh! Back to trying to save posts like that before hitting "enter," I guess. I hope it is something which Admin can address. Thanks for your input, Voyager.

Dear Doug,,,
A possible solve for this issue is to increase temp files storage to 1500 to 2000 megabites and reduce the ammount of time stored to 1 day :)

How many of you have the SP2 update for WinXP installed? I don't. It's probably a conflict with the WinXP SP2 patch. After the Admin updates the forum software, the conflict should be resolved.

Know everyone's avatars have been replaced with a little box that has an X in it....

and the colors are all funky.

This doesn't happen any where else. I hope there is not a virus or something going on.....

The Admin updated the software, so the problem should be fixed. He may have changed something regarding the location folder of the avatar images by mistake.

Man - this is frustrating - I know most folks BETTER by their avatars than by their NAMES!!!

I hope that gets fixed soon :(
