Good Sunday morning,
I thought you might find this amusing, My brother in-law was an Elder an the unofficial Asst. Pastor (Pastor would never give anyone power out of fear of losing control) when I saw the abuse I went to speak with my brother in-law about my concerns and his reply was this "Your not being fair Joe, your seeing his human side"
He hasn't spoken to me for about ten months or so now, he has remarked that he doesn't know why I left the church, I talked to his wife and offered to explain, it but she said only if I don't talk about the church.
Listen folks, just stay away from the kool aid and you'll be fine.
Thank you Lord for delivering us from evil, Amen
Be blessed, Joe

This is funny...but also sad. From my present perspective (see the recent post about "Fighting fundamentalism,) I'm wondering how much this kind of closed thinking represents fear on the part of those who are still in the church. It's SO hard to find that you're now somehow part of the "enemy"....as this would imply.
My heart goes out to you....
I hope you have a good day.

Mornin' Joe,
He ought to conform his human side more to the Godly one. Isn't that part of what we are called to do?
"Bless me, what do they teach them at these schools?" C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Have you read Toxic Faith yet?
Excellent book! Not only about understanding your own patterns but helps you accept it when others hold onto their false bliss in their ignorance.
We are seeing that people believe what they want to believe and no amount of truthful eyeopening experiences from you will change that for them. Too many people from our church are just lemmings following the leader off the financial bankruptcy cliff...they do NOT want us pointing our the flaws of what has happened...so be it.
This lemming is making a right turn...

Dear Theodora,,,,
Yes this can cause pain for quite some time until we figure out that we are not the "enemy",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they are :D

When I spoke about what I saw going on at my church (unfortunately it "unepectedly" came out of my mouth and I felt just like an outside person listening to it all roll off my tongue....)
Unfortunately, I was on the phone speaking with a Pastor's wife I worked with in the 12-step group ....
She came back at me a week later practically in tears saying, Pastor and Mrs. ___ have hearts of Gold and when you said that you're talking about us and our ministry as well!
the tables get turned and we (like the whistleblowers) become the villains of the story ---- it's always that way in dysfunctional abusive homes where the one who sees the abuse and calls out the truth becomes the scapegoat instead of everyone really laying the responsibility where it's deserved - the heads of the abusers! Don't worry ---- several years ago my friend told me how abusive the church was and I (sincerely) told her that they had hearts of gold, were only human doing the best they could, etc and basically made her into the villain in order to keep them looking good!
It's just like you said in that earlier post, I too believe that God is taking some out of all of this and until He gives you that revelation - it's like talking to a brick wall - I know because I was one (a brick wall that is) ! But, thank you God, I was given a wake-up call......
