As some of you will recall, I took a Divorce Recovery workshop in our church last year. I am now taking the second part of it called "A Different Road". It was put together by a great gal there - Barb Lyons. She is the real deal. I am helping out a little there with greeting and clean-up.
I just wanted to pass on some great sayings that I've picked up from her. She calls them road signs.
"When the pupil is ready - the teacher appears."
And then - the pupil becomes the teacher.
"If nothing changes - nothing changes."
"Finding the truth is painful. Living the lie is more painful."
[I liked this one a lot.]
"In order to heal - you really need to feel (your feelings)."
"You have to be real to feel and heal."
"Acid does more harm to the container it's stored than on the container it's poured."
"When the audience goes home - the show is over."
"Changing myself is difficult. Changing other is impossible."
And here's a slight difference to the Serenity Prayer.
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change,
Courage to change the person I can,
And the wisdom to know that person is me."
