When I was growing up, we attended "the Third Congregational Church". It was a local church with a small group that had been here since probably the early settlers of New England.

We went to sunday school every sunday. We attended the youth group when we were old enough. I have really good, safe, secure memories of learning about Jesus.

We sang in the choir and took turns running the service for CHildren's Sunday.

I want the same thing for my children. That is learning about the Love from Jesus, the cute bible stories.

Later in my adolescence my family converted to AoG. From then on in, I have never felt the peace of Jesus as I had when I was a young child.

Well, Today, on my son's field trip, I met another parent. She is a child that attended that small congregational church. She still attends. Her son is my son's age. (my 5 year old).

So, now I am thinking about attending.

Maybe.

Not sure if I am ready to give up my Sunday mornings with my family.

But man, I would love for my children to learn about a loving God.

The problem??? I am still conditioned by the former churches that this church is a "dead" church because you don't hear about end times or the wrath of God or the "spirit" in the way that the church we left understood things.

Maybe a dead church is a peaceful one....but I am still hanging on to a little fear that the "dead" church won't be the right one and my kids won't know salvation.

HUMPH. I think I am going to attend the little white church that I grew up in this weekend and hope that my children find a place to learn about the TRUE GOD.

Dear Jane,,,,
Do you really think that God is that tough a taskmaster????? Sweetie, you attend where your spirit can be fed,,,,where you can find Gods love and peace. Some of us have been set as watchman,,,let us worry about who is coming and when ;)

I would say that only you can determine if the church is a whole Bible-based church...and if they really love Jesus (I'm not just talkin' lip service and Sunday services here...) don't you think that you would have the insight to know it? I believe you do.

I agree w/ Jerry that you have to attend where you are being fed. A place that you're excited about and have feelings of anticipation for.

If a Congregational Church can do that for you...or at least provide a starting point for you...try it! If you go and you find that you are needing more...then GREAT for you! You're growing... But it sounds like your ready to start going back to church so start somewhere.

And do let us know how it turned out...k?

I agree, if the the congregational church is where your soul can be fed go there. I learned from experience. My early childhood was in a nice peaceful baptist church. I also was taken to the pentecostal churches as an adolecence. We started out in the AG churches, but was too tame for my mom. The most soul nuturing church i knew was now a dead church. I struggled for years with the idea of the "dead churches" Really, no church is dead if Jesus is there with his believers. I have gone back to a quieter "dead" church and healing and is now starting, slowly but its happening. Your children will know salvation no matter what church you attend as long as they have a praying mother who cares about their spiritual life and shares the word with them. The rest of the work is up to God. I will keep you in my prayers jane. Hang in there!

Jane,

I agree with Spinning Head.

If you have such good memories of that church then it is worth at least a try. You are a big girl now and can decide well what is right and wrong, especially in the light of what has happened to you.

We didn't make it there this morning.

It is wet and cold here in New England, and I am preferring the company of my family, the warmth of my home and the comfort of my pajamas.

maybe some other time!

I guess I am one of those hard headed types, I knew the information but second guessed myself and went after the approval..... :(
