Many personal events as well as my reflection on what I've been reading on this site and in the national/internationl news have me thinking about the nature of "hope" and how this is renewed in our lives.

My husband first introduced me to this famous poem by Emily Dickinson when we were struggling students in graduate school. I was "grabbed" by its imagery---even though not quite understanding it---and I continue to struggle with its conclusion. However, as a personal "thought of the day," I thought I'd offer it here. See below if interested.

Grace and peace!

#254 (" 'Hope' is the thing with feathers –")

by Emily Dickinson

"Hope" is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I've heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of Me.
