I attended this one church a few Sundays as well as Wednesdays about 5 months ago. Stopped going because the church was moving to a new location which was not ready. In the interim, they met at a park which I was unfamiliar with and wasn't too motivate to go. One reason was that I didn't want to be seen with them out in the open since I knew some people who lived in the area. They all have very negative feelings about Christians most of which I could not dispute. Yeah, not a very good attitude on my part. Was I being ashamed of his gospel? I am very ashamed of our cheesy sub-culture and how we behave...
But I really liked the pastor's sermons. They are easy to follow, yet thought provoking and devoid of the cheesy Christian lingo. He also seemed like an unassuming and humble person. I consider myself a good judge of character, and for the first time since the pastor I had back in high school years, my bs detector has not gone off.
(As a side note, the pastor of the church I attended in my high school years was a great pastor. His congregation stayed less than 100, and wasn't a very good preacher, but he truly was a pastor. He was my first "American" pastor, and the best I've had. As a little punk, I took him for granted :( . Will have to blog about him someday. Would love to get in touch with him again).
The first time I went there, I filled out a card. The singles pastor called me promtly after that. I thanked him for calling me and sent him an email with some introductory information about myself and gave him a link to my blog. He never responded to my email after that. I wrote him again, and he never replied. I have no idea whether it was my blog that turned him off. It's only a matter of speculation.
I went to the singles group one evening to check out what it was like. In contrast with the senior pastor, my bs detector was going off faster than fireworks. Pompous, arrogant, know it all, canned and scripted, talking down to people, etc.
Anyway, this got to be a little longer than I thought. Thanks everyone, and I will let you know tomorrow.
