Today's comic strip Cathy sums up my feeling on computers. It might be cheaper to buy a new computer which accept the scanenr than trying to repair it. Don't get me started on Service Pack 2. Oh, well for some comic relief

I hear ya, ex shep. per a quote at http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art1859.asp
"If Computers were like Cars ...
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated: "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Billīs comments, General Motors issued a press release stating (by Mr. Welch himself): If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would just accept this, restart and drive on.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn, would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought"Car95" or "CarNT." But then you would have to buy more seats.
6. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, reliable, five times as fast, and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five per cent of the roads.
7. The oil, water temperature and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single "general car default" warning light.
8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.
9. The airbag system would say "Are you sure?" before going off.
10. Occasionally, and for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grab hold of the radio antenna.
11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither need them nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the carīs performance to diminish by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Department.
12. Everytime GM introduced a new model car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
13. Youīd press the "start" button to shut off the engine."
.... sigh .... computers ........

Don't get me started on Service Pack 2.
WinXP Service Pack 2? Arrrggghhhh!!! I sent that !%$#&@ back where it came from. I have no intention in letting Bill Gates gain that much control over my computer. It wouldn't even allow my wireless connection to work on my laptop!

Hello Ex-Shep:
I read the comic strip. I thought it was cute.
I read the other posts and have to comment. I heard the dreaded horror stories about Windows XP and I don't know whether I got lucky because I have Windows XP Professional edition or what and I also have the remote connection. I guess I am just extremely grateful for my special gift that was given to me and that is my brand new computer and the Windows were on it when it was delivered to me.

We have XP Home on one PC. Service Pack 2 installed without a hitch and in spite of all the hype about it turning on the firewall and making other changes - not allowing existing firewall to work - I had the option of turning their firewall off and logged onto the 'net with no problem.
I know there are other instances where a lot of problems did occur. Glad my install went well.
On another note, I also recently installed Win Office Suite 2003 and am not especially happy with the way the mail client works. I have to select every person in the address book to send e-mail. With Outlook Express, I could just type part of a name and it filled in the rest automatically. Can't figure a way to get bcc entries made easily, either.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
God is trustworthy - computers ain't! :D
Can't live with them and can't (seem) to live without them.

Your right about Outlook in office 2003... I am having a hard time with it so I use my outlook express. I won't use the outlook. I will have to have a really good reason to use it but right now I don't see a good reason. I don't like the outlook in office 2003. I liked 2000 outlook but not this one and I can't see a way to Blind copy either. So when you find out, please pass on the information if you would.
