Would you care to share more about your connection to his granddaughter???

Yes, it is a wonderful story actually. I will try :D to shorten it.

I had been crying out to God/Goddess; please reveal yourself to me. I had just sort of left wicca but was really confused. I rented an apartment in Old Wethersfield Connecticut.

Across the street from me lived a man named Leigh Standish; a direct descendant of Miles Standish. (One of the early settlers of our country- old money). At the time in my life I was a pretty militant feminist- so I wasn't fond of "rich white men".

Nevertheless, God has a sense of humor. Leigh and his wife Betty introduced themselves and offered a ride to their church. A congregational church. Because of my prayers, I went. First Church of Christ in Old Wethersfield is a beautiful place to worship. They really love their history (Jonathon Edwards preached there and George Washington went there; his encampment during the Revolutionary war was there) and there is a large group of born again christians that just had them separated from the UCC movement.

For me it was a reminder of a childhood in christianity that was wonderful. I was basically raised congregationalist- love the hymns- Jesus is your friend and loves you. I was able to come back to Christ.

Betty and Leigh were instrumental in this. Come to find out they were born again christians. He had struggled with a drug problem and was wandering the streets of Hartford after loosing his family inheritance. He had cleaned up in Christ and rebuilt himself; owning his own commercial advertising business and three homes on the Wethersfield cove (very expensive place to live). Now he was serving the Lord and raising his family.

Betty was very supportive to me as I struggled finishing college and raising my son as a single parent. Her daughter was the same age as my son.

So how is this connected to Watchman? Betty was his granddaughter. They escaped persecution in China. She spoke of living in the boats in Vietnam. (I am pretty sure it was Vietnam). Her parents made it here to New Jersey where she was stunned by racism. She is chinese.

Her parents and family were wonderful people, all loving the Lord. They would come up to visit and have picnics in their yard.

I haven't seen Betty in a few years but she is the type of woman that if I went to see her, we would be like we never left.

Writing this in fact has made me miss them. :(

Thanks for asking.
