Imagine an advertising firm that landed an account for a cruise ship company to develop and distribute informational flyers about their Caribbean cruises. Imagine that the advertising firm put the job in the hands of an up and coming designer they hired and decided to see what he was made of. Then imagine that he did a bang up job with great pictures and tantalizing descriptions of romantic evenings, adventurous dives at spectacular coral reefs, shopping at unique villages rich with culture, dining on exquisite meals, and enjoying great entertainment. Then Imagine that the finished brochure said nothing about how to contact the cruise ship company- no phone number, no web address, no P.O. box.

Now imagine that when asked about this incredible oversight, the promising new hire said it was because he thought the flyer was meant only to let people know about the joys of a cruise, and that he believed knowing ABOUT a cruise was just as good and meaningful as actually going on one, and didn’t even consider that anyone would want to spend time, effort, and resource to actually go on a cruise.

You can bet that up and coming designer would soon be up and going… out the door.

Yet this is how many people look at the Bible; as if written accounts about God’s revelation of himself in the lives of others through healings, gifts, dreams, interventions, angels, deliverances, healings, etc. was just so you will know about what God has done in the past with others. God doesn’t just want us to know what he has done with others so we can understand who he is, he want us to go on the cruise!!

God is a father. A father doesn’t tell a kid what it is like to sit on a fathers lap and be close to him. A father says come and sit with me and let me be near you.
