Let's just say we sat in the front row. The worship time was very focused on Him (no hype)! Our pastor and his wife were present in the congregation. A gal taught some historical background from I Samuel up to chapter 14. Then our associate youth pastor preached. Was challenged to study if the original word for "witnesses" in Heb. was also the same word "martyr" that was used somewhere else. All in all felt pretty safe. This IS good news for me!!!!

P.S. Took our teenage daughter out for breakfast w/two other friends after she had gone to church w/them. Initiated a word game while sitting at the table to list as many women in the Bible as they could think of. It was kind of a fun thing to do! Why is it that some churches put women down and limit their capacity to be used of God????

Congratulations! That is such a huge hurdle. At first we'd go to church and I'd get through part of it, but then it would just get to be too much and I'd run out to work in the nursery. It was huge church so they always needed someone. Sometimes I'd just sit there shaking and crying. No one seemed to notice. I wonder if that was good or bad.
I still cry sometimes, but I'm not scared anymore.

Dear Sheep,
I had a similar conversation while out to dinner at the week-end with a dear friend,(an older lady who has been burned by her own Church.........she used to be my boss).
Anyway ,we too discussed why the Church" ( mostly men in leadership), abuse women in this way and do not acknowledge the many GREAT women of the Bible ,or Jesus' relationship with many!!
Jesus ,from what I can read held women in high regard and always had time to listen , show respect and compassion ..........a wonderful "husband" ;)
( I guess it goes back to the power, manipulation ,vulnerability thing etc..... control over us ,women, because it's "accepted"). :(
Love,
Kerrin ;)

Dear Sheep,,,
Just a word of caution with this type of study."Hebrew"is a very precise language, just compair the "English" and "Hebrew" dictionarys, you will find that the Hebrew dictionary is much smaller. There are many homonyms in Hebrew, and the meaning of many words is derived from context and literary form. The alternate meaning of a homonym in Hebrew has no particular significance.Hebrew has no words for "He/She",,,the gender orentation of any particular passage is dictated by literary form and structure, there are no masculine or feminine pronouns.Another good example of the appearance of "Homonyms" is in the book of Genisis. The word for "Naked & Wise" are the same word. So,,,,,what is my point??????,,,,,,,My point is this,,,,that while the alternate meaning of a homonym,in Hebrew, may suggest to us a deeper spiritual truth(and perhaps God intended the text to speek to "US" in this way),,,,,the alternate meaning of any particular homonym ment absolutely nothing to the writer of the text.Having said all that,it is an interesting speculative study :D

Dear Sheep,,,
Just an additional example for you of how the text writers of Hebrew thought of "Homonyms",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,When scanning your computer for addware the software will tell you that it is scanning the "Browser Cache",,,,,,,when that happens, the idea of "Money",,,,,,or Cash,,,,,doesn't even enter your mind :D
