Hi,
I'm new here. I've hung out a few times and learned a little of some of your stories. I wasn't sure if what I experienced was actually spiritual abuse, but I guess it was. I know I feel uncomfortable around church people these days--especially pastors. I wish i could live the rest of my life without ever having to deal with a pastor again. Are they all egomaniacs, or have I just been terribly unlucky???? The funniest part is that my husband (who is the kindest man I know) has been a lay pastor and is now actively looking for a full- time position. At least there will be one pastor who doesn't scare the !@#$ out of me. Anyway, thanks for listening.

my husband is getting his license (to preach) soon as well, and I know one thing--I've told him that I will be the worst preacher's wife ever-because I can't stand most of the preachers I meet. He's got a tough row to how. nevertheless, nursing me through some of my bitterness/hatred/frustration might have given him some valuable job training...?And it's ongoing!!because I'm still bitter/angry/irritated/hurt/confused etc.

Your husband will be a much better pastor for helping you. My husband shared his testimony last night at a recovery group we attend, and he talked about he used to think he could fix people (play god) but now he knows that people just want us to be there with them in their hurt, not fix them. He has learned so much thru watching what I have gone thru and the hurts the church has placed on him as well.

People just want us to be there with them in their hurt, not fix them.
If all churches would adopt this phrase as a motto, none of us would need to be on this website. The world would be a much better place.

This sounds really, really good to me. This, to me, is what the church should be so "good on him".

And welcome to the forum from another newbie.
